La Mirada vs Santa Fe

Boys Struggle to Victory as Girls Rest
Despite a 1st place finish by Ana Poblet and strong races from Megan Burbidge and Jenna Pasillas, the Lady Mats were unable to secure a victory against Santa Fe. Why? Because, other than Poblet, Burbidge and Pasillas, the remainder of the Varsity team ran a rigorous workout in preparation for the upcoming season. In the Girls J.V. race, the Matadores prevailed 32 to 22. In the Boys Varsity race, Nathaniel Moore and Jared Bird took the top two spots as the boys overcame an improved Santa Fe team 25 to 30. Ryan Holash, running with the front two for the first mile, was tripped and fell back to 5th place. Freddy Ramirez, racing for the first time in 2 weeks, was the 4th Matadore to finish and Kevin Osborn out-kicked a Santa Fe runner for the 9th spot. The Frosh-Soph Boys were unable to field a complete team against the Chiefs. The Matadore team will participate in the Roadrunner Classic at La Mirada Regional Park this Saturday, September 27th.

La Mirada vs Cal Hi/La Habra

Posted by Ralph Casas at Sep 17, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Lady Mats Continue String of Success

Despite competing in their 3rd race in 6 days, the La Mirada Girls were successful in races against La Habra and Cal High at La Mirada Regional Park. The Varsity girls, led by Destinie Martin (21:02) and Ana Poblet (21:32), cruised to victory over La Habra (22 - 37) and California High (17 - 41).

Jared Bird (17:07) ran a brilliant race to take the #2 spot in the Varsity Boys race and Nathaniel Moore hung on for the 5th spot. Unfortunately, with Freddy Ramirez sitting out and Ryan Holash recovering from an ankle injury, the Matadores were unable to overcome the depth of a tight La Habra team (22 - 35) and were defeated by a mere point by Cal High (28 - 29).
