CONTINUED GAME COMPLETED ONE MONTH LATER

Posted by Ruth Stoffel at May 14, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The first high school baseball game to be played at San Diego's PETCO Park, between the La Costa Canyon Mavericks and the Rancho Bernardo Broncos, was suspended after eight innings with the score tied at three apiece.  The Mavericks scored single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead with 6'7" Garrett Hughes on the mound for the Mavericks.  However the Broncos rallied to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Neither team could score in the 7th or 8th innings with the fading sunlight and the game was suspended after 8 innings to allow for the second game of the evening to start after they turned the lights on.

On  May 14th at Rancho Bernardo High School the two teams met to complete the suspended game.  La Costa Canyon failed to scored in the top of the 9th and Rancho Bernardo pushed across a single run in the bottom half of the one inning actually played to earn a delayed 4-3 win and a tie for second place in league play.
