FRESHMAN TEAM BATTERS SAN MARCOS 22-4

COACH GOLD ORDERED THE BENCH CLEARED AS A HITTER'S BRAWL BROKE OUT AGAINST SAN MARCOS. TWENTY DIFFERENT FRESHMAN WENT TO THE PLATE DURING THE GAME, ACCOUNTING FOR 22 RUNS ON 20 HITS. THE FIRST 7 MAV BATTERS SINGLED AND THEN ZACK ARMSTRONG CAPPED THE INNING WITH A TWO-RUN HOME RUN. TANNER GAGE WAS THE STARTING PITCHER, PITCHING 3 INNINGS ALLOWING FOUR RUNS AND GETTING THE WIN. NIKO GILLIGAN CAME IN RELIEF FOR TWO SHUTOUT INNINGS. BACK FORM PADRE SPRING TRAINING, NICK MCADOO CLOSED THE GAME, THROWING TWO SHUTOUT INNINGS AND GETTING THE SAVE. DREW KRASSNY RETURNED FROM THE INJURY RESERVE LIST TO BAT TWO TIMES IN THE SAME INNING, GETTING ONE HIT. THIS TIME HE WAS WEARING A JERSEY WITH A NUMBER. HITTING HIGHLIGHTS: ARMSTRONG 2 SINGLES 1HR, LYON 3 HITS 2 RBI'S, MARTIN 2 HITS 2 RBI'S, MCMAHON 1 DBL 2 RBI'S, CORICA 1 DBL 2 RBI'S, HEALY 1 HIT 1 RBI, SCHUPP 2 HITS 2 RBI'S, MORGAN 2 HITS 2 WALKS.

Mav bats pound San Marcos

La Costa picked up a 21-1 win Wednesday at San Marcos. Max McNabb started on the mound and went 4 innings, picking up the win. He allowed just 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 7.  Brown, Webb, and Raffaele each contributed shutout relief innings. The offense exploded for 18 hits and drew 13 walks. Jochem, Tybroski, Hughes, and Evans hit home runs driving in 12 of the Mav runs.  Most starters left after the 4th inning but the Mavs scored 10 more runs. 15 players hit safely and/or scored runs.

MAV FRESHMAN BATTLE 6-2 OVER RAMONA

LCC PITCHERS COMBINED FOR A 2 HIT PERFORMANCE TO STOP RAMONA 6-2, EVEN THOUGH RAMONA PITCHERS MANAGED TO STRIKE OUT 12 LCC BATTERS. THE FRESHMAN RECORD MOVES 5-2. SAM DUDECK WAS THE STARTER, PITCHING TWO INNINGS & ALLOWING TWO RUNS, ONE EARNED.  DILLON (WOODY) THOMISON PITCHED THE NEXT 4 INNINGS, SHUTTING DOWN RAMONA AND GETTING THE WIN. ANDREW HINKLE CLOSED THE GAME TO GET THE SAVE. KEY DEFENSIVE PLAYS: KENYON LYON CAUGHT A FLY BALL IN LEFT FIELD, RELAYED TO TANNER GAGE WHO THREW OUT THE RUNNER ATTEMPTING TO SCORE FROM 3RD BASE. WEB GEM OF THE GAME. WESTON CORICA FULL LAYOUT CATCH OF A ROCKET HIT BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND TO DENY A HIT. HITTING HIGHLIGHTS:  JASON GUENDERT 2 HITS, 3 RBI'S, ROBBY SCHUPP 2 HITS, 2 RUNS SCORED, DANNY MARTIN 2 HITS, 2 RUN SCORED, 1 RBI , ANDREW HINKLE 2 HITS, 1 RBI. DAULTON MORGAN, NIKO GILLIGAN AND RYAN HEALY ALL CAME IN AND GOT PINCH HIT SINGLES, RYAN HEALY GETTING AN RBI.

Ramona hands La Costa first loss

The Bulldog starter shut out the Mavs hitters for 5 innings, allowing just 1 hit. Garret Hughes kept La Costa in the game, giving up only 1 run on 2 hits before getting into trouble in the 6th inning. The Mav relievers were unable to stop the surge and Ramona built up a comfortable lead. The Mav offense scored 5 runs in the last 2 innings, but were unable to catch up, falling 11-5 for the season’s first loss.
