After 3 straight losses to Torrey Pines and an earlier loss to Escondido at home last month, La Costa came in fired up and never looked back, evening their series with the Cougars. Garrett Hughes led 4 Mav pitchers in a 7 inning no-hit shutout by working the first 4 innings and allowing just a single walk against 4 strike outs. The final 3 innings were shared by Cody Parks, Parker Johnson, and Cory Soto. The Mav offense brought 54 hitters to the plate in 7 innings, collecting 20 hits, 9 walks and 2 hit by pitchers. Hughes led the attack with 2 home runs and 5 RBI’s. Jake Webb had a 3 run homer in his only at bat in the 7th.  Zach Gage had 4 hits including 2 doubles and drove in 4 runs. Justin Graeber continued his hot streak with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored. Will Swanner scored 3 runs and his brother, Michael, collected his first hit of the season. Chris Doyle had 2 hits and scored twice. The Mavs finish league play on Wednesday at home against Escondido.
The Mavs won their 19th game on Monday, defeating Escondido 14-1.  Drew Krassny was the Mav Starter, pitching extremely well in his 3 innings of work.  Sam Dudeck and Skyler Redondo came on in relief, each working two scoreless frames.  Offensively, the Mavs were paced by Zack Armstrong with two well- struck doubles.  Weston Corica had two hits including a homerun, as did Josh McMahon with a homer and a single, bringing in 3 runs. Nick Michels and Andrew Hinkle each chipped in with two hits.  BUT... the real highlight of the contest occurred late in the game when Wes Chapelone led off the inning with a walk and was replaced with pinch runner BRAD MADREN who subsequently scored on Josh McMahon's homerun!  High fives abounding everywhere!!  Great Job Brad!!

It was just not the Mavs day as all three phases of the Mavs game misfired.  The boys had their chances a couple of times, but failed to get the 2 out hit.  Nine walks and 4 errors helped the Falcons to the victory.  Highlights included a 2 hit performance from Marcos Vera, and extra base hits from Nick Michels and Andrew Hinkle.  On the pitching side, Dillon Thomison pitched a scoreless 7th.
