JV Wins easily over El Camino 16-8

Posted by Mike Corica at Apr 5, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The bats were hot once again as the Mavs pounded out 18 hits. Armstrong,Hinkle and Martin led the way with 3 hit games, followed by Corica with a two hit day.  Other noteables were Schupp with a triple and McMahon with a 2 bagger.  The pitching did what they had to do with Gage going the first 3 frames followed by Thomison who finished the last 4 innings.

The Mavericks marched 13 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning to post 8 runs.  Then with their opponent on the mat and nearly lifeless, they allowed El Camino to slowly claw their way back in to the game.  When the Mavs finally woke up and looked at the scoreboard in the bottom of the 5th it was 10 to 7.   They then realized that the game had become too close, and the Mav's did what they do best, scoring 3 more runs to cinch the victory.  The final score was La Costa 13, El Camino 7.

The win went to starting pitcher Carter Johnson who threw 4 solid innings.  Relief was provided by Kyle and Kyle (Morris and Sachrison).  Sachrison struck out the side in the 7th to end the game.

Casinelli lead the highlight film with a homerun over the centerfield fence.  Other hitters for the day included Winters, Davern, Lesinski, Baere, Solomon, Miller, Johnson, Curtis, and Schenk.

The boys are now 3-1 in the North County Tournament, and 15-2 for the season.   The standings for the North County Tournament can be found at: http://www.pacificbaseballumpires.org/Standings.html

Mavs Win Pacific Classic Tournament Championship Game Against Carlsbad 9-2

pacific resultsThe Pacific Classic Tournament Championship game featured unbeaten La Costa facing rival and also unbeaten Carlsbad.  For the second time in two weeks, the Mavericks were the better team and La Costa drove home with the 1st Place Trophy.

Carlsbad was up 1-0 thru the first 5 innings of play.  The Mavericks hitters were off balance and unable to hit until they finally found their hitting sticks and momentum in the top of the 6th.  With a walk to start things off, and a sacrifice bunt to move the runner the Mav's finally started to gain some momentum.  By the end of the 6th inning, La Costa had managed to score 4 big runs.  They then added 5 more runs in the 7th cruising to a 9-2 final score.  Hitters for the day included Casas, Casinelli, Johnson (with an HR BOMB), Marinos, Sachrison, Solomon, and Winters.

Keats Ewing pitched his second complete game of the season.  He was in control of the game the entire way - allowing just 4 balls to find their way out of the infield, and giving up just 1 earned run.

In winning this tournament the Mavericks outscored their opponents by a total of 59 to 10 .

JV Handles Westview 11-0

Posted by Mike Corica at Apr 2, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The JV Mavericks fired on all cylinders yesterday, defeating Westview 11-0.  Andrew Hinkle pitched a brilliant complete game shutout, keeping the opponents off balance all day. The offensive was alive and well with Marcos Vera leading the way with 3 hits and 3 RBI's, followed by Danny Martin with 3 hits of his own.  Zach Armstrong and Josh McMahon also added multi-hit games. The Mavericks recorded a 3-1 record in the tournament but were not chosen to compete in the championship game, in spite of having a better record than one of the finalists.....Hmmmm....
