Mavericks Win 7-1 To Sweep First Series
At the end of three innings LCC was down 1-0. The Mavericks managed to scratch out a run to tie it in the 4th, but things didn't look good until the 5th inning when Andrew Solomon banged a 3 RBI triple that put the Mavericks ahead for good. The Mavericks pitching and error-free defense held on for a 7-1 victory. With this win, the boys swept the first series of the league season.
Colin Winters started and threw three strong innings. Carter Johnson relieved and got the win with three exceptional innings. Keats Ewing closed it in the 7th.
Hitters for the day included Allmaras, Casas, Casinelli, Davern, Miller, Solomon, and Winters.
The Mavericks now move to 3-0 in the league, and 19-2 for the season.
The Maverick offense was absolutely unstoppable against the Grizzlies on a beautiful-for-baseball Friday afternoon. Jumping ahead with 3 runs in the first inning, the Mavericks picked up the pace and scored 6 runs in each of the next two innings. The Mavericks never looked back as they finished with 3 touchdowns and a field goal to win by a final score of 24-1.
Shayne Davern started and got the win with 3 fine innings on the mound. He was relieved by Marinos, Curtis, Ewing, and Morris. None of the pitchers gave up earned runs.
The offensive slaughter was lead by Casinelli who had 5 hits on the day. The team jacked 5 Home Runs - including bombs by Casinelli, Marinos, Winters (with 2), and Miller. Other hitters for the day included Davern, Solomon, Johnson, Theriault, Curtis, and Allmaras. Marinos and Casinelli both had 5 RBI's each.
After six days off, the Mavericks returned to play for their first official league game of the 2010 season. Opening against the Grizzlies from Mission Hills the Mavericks looked a bit tentative to start the game. After two innings of play the Mavericks clung to a 3-2 lead. From that point on it was all LCC as the Mavericks began pouring it on. They scored in every inning - with 6 big runs in the 4th. The Mavericks went on to win by a final score of 19-2.
Chad Theriault started the game and got the win. Keats Ewing pitched 2 innings of relief, followed by Drew Addy for 2, and Kyle Morris closed it in the bottom of the 7th.
Carter Johnson was the RBI king for the day with 4. Miller and Winters both had big days at the plate with 3 hits each. Other hitters for the day included Curtis, Davern, Groseclose, Johnson, Marinos, Smith, and Solomon.
La Costa's defense was solid, with no errors for the entire game.
The Mavericks are now 17-2 for the season, and 1-0 in league play.
