JV wins series with dramatic 1-0 win.

Posted by Mike Corica at Apr 23, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Kyle Hogencamps's one hit shutout was the story of this contest.  Fans were treated to a old fashioned pitchers dual as both hurlers tossed blanks until the Maverick sixth inning. Weston Corica doubled to lead off the inning and moved to 3rd on a groundout.  Andrew Hinkle eventually smoked a double off the wall to plate Corica for the only run of the game. Then it was back to Hogencamp, who answered in the seventh inning. After a couple of walks and hit batter, Hogencamp fanned the final hitter to end the only scoring threat of the game by San Pasqual.

Mavericks Blank San Pasqual 12-0

Posted by Neil Miller at Apr 23, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Mavericks banged out 13 hits to beat San Pasqual by a final score of 12-0.  The offense was lead by Colin Winters who produced 5 RBI's for the day.  Colin smoked a grand slam bomb homerun in the 2nd inning.  Other hitters for the day included Casinelli, Curtis, Friederichsen, Johnson, Morris, Solomon, and Theriault.

Kyle Sachrison started on the mound and threw three solid innings.  Kyle was relieved by Davern, Baere, Addy, and Morris.  The pitching staff combined to throw a second consecutive one-hitter, with only a single ball making it out of the infield for the entire game.

The play of the game goes to Conner Schenk who made a diving (full-body layout) play at 2nd base.

Interesting stat of the day: for the 8th time this year Solomon picked off a runner in the 1st inning of the game.

The team now moves to 5-0 in the league, and 21-2 for the season.

Mavericks Win Opener Against San Pasqual

Posted by Neil Miller at Apr 18, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Is it  possible to "squeak by" with a winning score of 8-0?  The Mavericks drove home knowing they put a shut-out on the board, but also knowing they had not played their best game.

The Mavericks jumped ahead in the first inning with 2 runs, then coasted until the 3rd inning when they broke the game open batting around and scoring 6 big runs.  After that the bats were put away for the rest of the day and the pitchers did their business.  Maverick hitters for the day included Allmaras, Baere, Casinelli, Curtis, Lesinski, Marinos, Sachrison, Solomon, and Winters.

Chad Theriault started on the mound for the Mavericks and got the win throwing three innings of shut-out baseball. He was relieved by Keats Ewing for another three innings and Kyle Morris closed it in the 7th.  The pitchers combined to throw a ONE-HITTER, and the defense posted another errorless game.  The Mavericks allowed only 25 batters to come to the plate for the entire game.

With this win the Mav's move to 20-2 for the season.

Mavs fall asleep in game one

Posted by Mike Corica at Apr 18, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
After a long streak of excellent baseball, the boys had a letdown in game one against San Pasqual.  Offensively the Mavs managed only 5 hits against the 36 inch wide strike zone. Hits were recorded by Schupp, Redondo, Gage, Lyon and Healy. The pitching was good enough to win. Unfortunately, Andrew Hinkle took the tough loss pitching 4 good innings. Dillion Thomison worked 2 scoreless frames in relief.
