Posted by Neil Miller at Mar 27, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

LCC played Mira mesa today in the final game of the Lion's Tournament.  Neither team could score for the first two innings but Mira Mesa posted 2 runs in the top of the 3rd.  LCC replied with 2 in the bottom of the 3rd when Davern and Miller led off with a pair of walks, followed by an RBI-single by Sean McElroy to score Davern.  Feldmeir then hit an infield fielders choice and Miller broke for home, and scored with a wide hook slide to avoid the tag.  This tied the game at 2 all.

LCC then added another run in the bottom of the 6th when McElroy led off with a walk and pinch hitter Souter banged a triple to knock in a run.  The final score was LCC 3, Mira Mesa 2.

LCC Drops Game to Madison in Bottom of 7th

Posted by Neil Miller at Mar 25, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

La Costa faced Madison today in the second game of the 2013 Lions Tournament.  Madison jumped ahead in the first inning when they loaded the bases and scored one run.   The game then turned in to a pitchers dual as neither team could find a way to plate a run until much later in the game.

In the top of the 6th the Mav's scored two runs when Balderas hit a double off the fence and Solomon followed with a basehit to right.  Davern hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run, then Miller followed with a line drive to right to score the 2nd run.  With these runs, the Mav's moved ahead 2-1.  The Mav's then held Madison in the bottom of the 6th.

Moving in to the bottom of the 7th, the Mav's held a one run lead.  The first batter struck out, but then Madison managed to string together a few hits to win the game on a walk-off blooper to shallow left field.  The final score was Madison 3, LCC 2.

Ethan Abrams pitched 7 1/3 innings and gave up 2 earned runs.  Souter was called in for relief in the bottom of the last.

The Mav's are now 6-4 on the season and 1-1 in the tournament.

La Costa played the opening game of the 2013 Lions Tournament today - a home game against El Camino Real of Woodland Hills. This game played like a repeat of Saturday's game.....

Neither team could mount much of an offensive drive until late in the game.  Thru five complete innings of baseball, the score was deadlocked at 0-0.  In the top of the 6th the Mav's loaded the bases, but could not convert any runs.  In the 7th, the Mav's threatened again when Souter hit a double to the fence, but was stranded at 2nd base.  Finally in the 8th, LCC managed to score when Casinelli led off with a double and eventually scored on a fielder's choice.  El Camino failed to score in the bottom of the 8th and the Mavericks walked away with a winning score of 1-0.

This game marks 29 CONSECUTIVE SCORELESS innings by the Maverick pitchers / defense.

Carter Johnson started on the mound and he pitched a complete game to get the win.  He threw just 87 pitches over 8 innings, giving up just 2 hits.

The Mavericks will now face Madison at Rancho Bernardo HS on Tuesday at 3:30.
