La Costa played El Camino last night in the first game of a 3-game series.  El Camino came out swinging in the first inning and found a way to score 4 runs.  LCC challenged a few times but could not score until the bottom of the 6th when Casinelli led off with a single, Solomon walked, and Davern and McElroy followed with big hits to produce 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th.  Unfortunately that was it for the Mavericks and the game ended with a final score of El Camino 4, LCC 2.

LCC is now 6-1 in league play and will face El Camino on the road on Saturday in a double-header for revenge of this loss.

Posted by Neil Miller at Apr 19, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

LCC played Rancho Buena Vista at home in the 3rd and final game of the league series.  RBV jumped to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning, but La Costa tied it in the bottom of the 3rd when Schenk led off with a single, Casas bunted him to 2nd and Casinelli hit him in.

RBV scored one in the 5th to take the lead 2-1.  LCC could not score until the bottom of the 7th when the game was at stake - Schenk reached 1st base on an infield error.  Casas then executed his second perfect sacrifice bunt of the day to advance Schenk.  Casinelli reached first on an infield error, moving Schenk to 3rd base.  Winters hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Schenk and tie the game at 2-2.  Solomon put the ball in play and the shortstop mishandled the ball allowing Casinelli to score to push the Mav's ahead with a final score of LCC 3, RBV 2.   LCC stole this game......

Carter Johnson started on the mound and pitched 6 strong innings.  Balderas entered in the 7th inning and got the win.

LCC is now 6-0 in 2013 Avocado League West play and will face El Camino in a 3 game series this next week.
