News and Announcements

Playing on the road, against a very good team from Granite Hills, the Mavericks decided to turn up their game a few notches......

From the opening inning, this game was ALL La Costa.  16 Hits Offensively, 0 Errors Defensively, and Near-Perfect Pitching added up to a dominant LCC performance.

Balderas got things going in the top of the first with a solid single, followed by another hit by Davern.  Solomon then hit in Balderas with an RBI-single and Miller RBI'd Davern in for a 2-0 lead.  Neither team scored in the 2nd, but LCC scored again in the 3rd when Davern doubled, Solomon singled and Miller hit an RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 3 nothing. LCC added another in the 4th when Sean McElroy doubled, Schenk singled, and Casas hit McElroy in with an RBI single to left.

LCC added another run in the 5th when McElroy, Schenk, and Souter walked and Casinelli wore one on the arm for an RBI.  The 6th inning started with Solomon getting another hit and Miller driving a deep double to score Solomon.  This put the Mav's up 6-0.  But the hitting was not yet over..............

In the 7th the bats got really hot. Casas led off with a single, followed by a double by Casinelli, and a 2-RBI hit by Winters.  Balderas kept the rally going with another hit, and Davern knocked in another run with a single.  Solomon then had his 5th hit of the day to add another run making it 10-0.  In the bottom of the 7th Granite Hills managed to score a meaningless run to make the final score LCC 10, Granite Hills 1.

Carter Johnson pitched an outstanding game from start to finish, and got the win.  He struck out 7, and walked NONE.

This Maverick team will return to Granite Hills on Thursday in an effort to advance to USD Stadium for the 2013 CIF Open Division Championship game.

LCC Advances With Win Over Helix

Posted by Neil Miller at May 24, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

LCC played Helix today in a winner advances, loser goes home game in the CIF Open Playoffs.  The game was a rematch from 3 days prior when Helix managed to squeak out a victory on LCC's home field.  The LCC boys had revenge in mind.

Helix got nothing in the 1st inning, but LCC exploded for 3 runs when Winters and Balderas hit back-to-back singles and Davern hit a BOMB over the RF fence that just managed to stay fair.  This gave LCC a 3-0 lead.  Neither team could score until the 4th when LCC mounted another drive when Miller singled, Souter walked, and Schenk bunt for a hit.  Casas then hit a sacrifice fly to push pinch-runner Orr across the plate.  Casinelli then hit two more runs in with a ball hit deep to left field.  This put the Mav's up 6-0.  Helix managed to score 1 run in the 7th, but that was not enough as the Mav's won with a final score of 6-1.

Ethan Abrams started on the mound and was masterful.  He pitched the complete game and got the win.

With this win, LCC now advances to the semi-finals.  The next game will be at Granite Hills on Tuesday.   Word is the team dog will be making the road trip.....

LCC Beats Torrey to Advance in CIF Playoffs

Posted by Neil Miller at May 23, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The stands were packed for a CIF Playoff game on a Friday afternoon against arch nemesis Torrey Pines.  It doesn't get any better than this....

Torrey batted around in the top of the first inning scoring 4 huge runs, but LCC answered in the bottom of the inning with 2 of their own when Casinelli was hit by a pitch, then Winters singled, and Balderas singled and Davern hit a sacrifice fly to push a run in.  Miller followed with an RBI single to make the score Torrey 4, LCC 2.

Sachrison got in the pitching groove and retired the side giving up no runs in the 2nd or 3rd. LCC added another run in the bottom of the 3rd when Balderas scored on an RBI single by Solomon.  LCC then added another run in the 4th when Schenk led off with a single followed by a pinch-hit double by Souter and an RBI fielders choice by Casinelli.  LCC then broke things open in the 5th when Davern, Solomon, and Miller all had hits.  Sean McElroy came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded.  Solomon scored on a wild pitch and then McElroy stroked a basehit to score a run followed by a 2-RBI single by Casinelli to score two more runs - making the score LCC 8, Torrey 4.

Sachrison continued to throw harder and better, shutting down the side in the 6th inning.  LCC then added 2 additional insurance runs in the 6th when Winters singled and Balderas was walked, followed by a sacrifice by Davern and another RBI single by Solomon.

The Mavericks won by a final score of 10-4.  Sachrison pitched the whole game and got the win with 105 pitches thrown.

LCC now advances to play on Saturday at 11:00 am against Helix at LCC.  This game will be for revenge from a few days ago.

LCC Drops CIF Opener

Posted by Neil Miller at May 22, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Playing in front of a packed house in the opening round of the 2013 CIF Playoffs, the Mav's faced a hungry squad from Helix.

Carter Johnson started on the mound for the Mavericks and he was masterful in the 1st.  LCC jumped on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when Solomon reached first on a walk, and Miller smashed a line-shot HOMERUN over the left field fence to put the Mav's up 2-0. Helix replied in the 3rd with 2 runs, and then another in the 4th, and 2 more in the 5th to take a 5-2 lead.  The Mav's finally mounted a drive in the 6th when Casinelli beat out a dribbler to lead off the inning and Winters hit a line shot triple.  Balderas then hit an infield RBI-fielders choice to bring the Mav's to within 1 run.

Heading in to the bottom of the 7th the Mav's were down by 1 run.  The Mav's put 2 runners on base but stranded them to lose by a final score of Helix 5, LCC 4.

The Mav's will now continue their pursuit to defend the CIF Title playing in the Losers Bracket on Friday May 24th at home against Torrey Pines.
