LCC Loses In CIF Semi-Final Game
The Mavericks traveled to Granite Hills today to play in a CIF Semi-Finals game. The stakes were high: the winner advances to the Championship Game, and the loser would go home.
Granite Hills threw their left handed ace and he dominated the Mav hitters. LCC could not score in the first 2 innings, but Granite Hills scored 1 in the 2nd and another in the 3rd to go up 2 nothing. LCC got on the board in the 4th when Balderas jacked a homerun, to bring LCC to within 1 run. The Eagles then added another run in the 5th and the Mavs could not match it so the game ended with a final score of Granite Hills 3, LCC 1. The Maverick hitters could only manage 3 hits the whole game against some very tough pitching.
LCC ends the season with a final record of 23-12, with a 3rd place finish in the CIF Open Division Playoffs.
Granite Hills will play Rancho Bernardo in the Open Division Championship Game.
Closing comments..... This thing that is called high school baseball is more than a game. For us it was a destination and a 12 year journey. The journey started with T-ball and progressed to live pitching, “travel ball”, lots of great games, some really bad games, and memories of playing on fields all around San Diego, Southern California and surrounding states. There were times when our kids were team mates and occasionally times where we were enemies / opponents. Some kids played Little League, others played Pony, and others came from other backgrounds - but when they arrived at LCC they all played together as Mavericks. For years we talked about “high school ball”, we took private lessons, bought expensive gloves and bats, and did whatever it took to make sure our kids were ready for high school ball. We pushed our kids and eventually we watched them take over and drive themselves to get better. It was a great journey and the destination was even better than we had planned for. So we here we are. It’s over. I am sad but I also feel very lucky to have spent so many hundreds of hours pursuing high school ball. I already miss it. Signing out. - Anonymous Parent Author
