Posted by J Machado at May 10, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
In a battle of the first and second place teams in the league the Mavericks showed that they can swing the bats with anyone. The first game was highlighted by a great pitching performance by Doug Konoske. In his complete game he moved his record to 7-1 on the season with 2 saves and 4-0 in league. The second game was a slugfest that saw four lead changes and 28 runs scored. Michael Kenney started the game pitching three innings before getting in trouble in the fourth. In the fourth Travis Goldbach relieved Kenney and shut down the Warriors to earn his third win on the year. Brian Brehm got the save in the seventh getting the Mavericks out of a bases loaded jam to end the game. The true highlights of the game were at the plate for the Mavericks. Andrew Nacario reached base eight times, including four hits, five runs, and 3 stolen bases. Joey Burke had five hits, drove in three runs, stole four bases, and scored five runs. Chris Fuller scored four times. Michael Scharbarth had four hits, drove in six and scored six times Scott Clement had four hits and four RBI's Nick Diehl had four RBI's in the second game. Mavs Squeak by Sundevils

Posted by Jamie Machado at May 6, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
With the help of Johnny Zepeda (2-3, 1b, 2b, 3 RBI's) the Mavericks moved their league record to 8-0. Drew Logan was impressive in the start going five innings allowing 1 run on three hits. Doug Konoske relieved for Logan allowing two earned runs in two innings. The Mavericks sporadic defense allowed the Sundevils to get back in the game eventually clamping down to preserve the victory. Andrew Nacario also had a great day at the plate going 2-3 with a home run to lead off the game. The win increases the Mavericks winning streak to 16 and improves their record to 21-1. The Mavericks also remained #1 in the state for the third consecutive week.
