Wes Schiller used another strong effort in beating Valley Center 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon. In doing so Schiller (1-1) threw 62 pitches, allowing four hits, and walking none. Scott Clement closed the game with his first inning on the mound. Offensively the Mavericks were led by a host of players who were able to get clutch hits when needed. The Mavericks move to 3-1 on the season and in the tournament. They will travel to Torrey Pines on Thursday for the final game of pool play in the Falcon/Pirate Tournament.

Mavericks Beat San Dieguito 8-1

The Mavericks scored 7 runs in the first four innings and cruised to an easy victory over the San Dieguito Academy. With a six run cushion Doug Konoske showed is dominance throwing 69 pitches over 6 innings of work. He only allowed three hits while striking out five, and walking 1. The Mavericks were led offensively by Kyle Musella (2-3 3B, 2 RBI's), Bryan Ernst (2-3 2B, 2RBI's), and Kevin Patterson (1-2 3 runs scored). With the victory the Mavericks move to 2-1 on the season. image

Mavericks Squeak Out Victory vs. Pt. Loma

The Mavericks had to fight from behind a couple of times yesterday to earn their first victory of the year. In the third the Mavericks took the lead 2-0, but then allowed five in the top of the fourth. In the fifth, Scott Clements two run shot cut the lead to 5-4. The Pointers then added one in the sixth. The Mavericks got hot at the plate and added five thanks to Kevin Patterson's(2-3 2 2B's, 5 RBI's) bases clearing double. The Pointers battled back in the seventh scoring four in the top half to take the lead 10-9. In the bottom half Bret St. Amor lead off with a triple to right, and scored on Doug Konoske's double to right center. Chris Smith then followed with the game winning single down the third base line. Doug Konoske earned his first victory of the year by facing two batters in the seventh.

Mavs Lose Opener to Mt. Miguel

Despite a great outing by Wes Schiller the Mavericks were unable to earn the victory at Mt. Miguel. Mt. Miguel starting pitcher Mike McLaughlin was awesome allowing three hits and striking out 13 Mavericks taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Scott Clement was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBI's. The Mavericks look to get back in the win column on Thursday at home against Pt. Loma. Game time is scheduled for 3:15.

The 2004 Mavericks are ranked #1 in the county by the San Diego Tribune, with Rancho Bernardo #2. Other North County schools included: RBV #5, Mt. Carmel #7, Oceanside #8, Vista #9, and Torrey Pines #10.
