MAVERICKS BEAT RANCHO BERNARDO 4 - 1

The Mavericks moved their league record to 3-1 and into a tie with Poway, and Torrey Pines for the Palomar League Title. Yesterday the Mavericks bats came alive in a 4-1 victory over Rancho Bernardo at La Costa. Behind the clutch hitting of Grant Allgire and Chris Brookey the Mavericks were able to gain a 3-0 lead in the first inning. From that point on it was Tyler Wells who stole the show pitching a complete game 7 hitter. With the victory Tyler moves his record to 4-1 on the season. The Mavericks move to 11-6 overall.

Mavs Play Saugus

The Mavericks finished out the Lions Tournament at Santana High School against Saugus High School. Sean Soto had a solid four inning shutout performance, but the Mavs ended up with a 3-0 loss.

Mavs Lose Close One with Torrey Pines

For the first six innings it was a pitchers dual between Tyler Wells and Eric Hillenbrand from Torrey Pines. The seventh provided the highlights as both teams scratched out two runs a piece for a 2-2 tie. In the eighth Tyler Korn gave up consecutive hits to Falcon hitters who eventually came around to score and give Torrey the lead 4-2. The Mavericks never threatened in the bottom half and lost 4-2. The loss moves the Mavericks record to 6-4 on the season and 0-1 in league play. The Mavs will play again Wdenesday at Westview at 3:30.

North County Tournament Championship Game

Fallbrook shut out Rancho Bernardo 5-0 to win the 2006 North County Tournament Championship. Fallbrook (10-0) also beat Rancho Bernardo (6-4) by a score of 13-0 in the season opener for both teams.

Pitching & Defense Lead the Way

The Mavericks defeated the Escondido Cougars 2-0 on Thursday afternoon. Behind the great pitching of Tyler Wells, Michael Snider and Tyler Korn the Mavericks played error free baseball. The staff allowed 5 hits, struck out 5, and induced 9 ground balls. Tyler Wells moves his record to 2-1 on the season. Offensively Rusty Leedy led of the game with a hit, stole 2nd, moved to third on a pass ball, and scored on Grant Allgire's ground out. Nate Obenshain walked and scored in the second to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. With the victory the Mavericks move their record to 6-3 on the season. On Monday the Palomar League begins with a contest against Torrey Pines at 3:30.
