LA COSTA CANYON HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

In a game that featured errorless defense by LCC, timely hitting eluded the Mavs scattering 5 hits over 7 innings with no runs scored. Starting pitcher Tyler Wells gave up 2 runs over 5 innings on 5 hits and 3Ks. Reliever Tyler Korn threw the final 2 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and 1K. Brian Martutartus led the offense going 2-4 with a double. The Mavs enter the final week of the regular season at Mt Carmel on Monday, 3:30 p.m. and finish Wednesday at home against Rancho Bernardo, 3:30 p.m.

Solid defense and pitching weren’t enough to compensate for a flat offense in a loss to the Wolverines. Maverick bats were limited to 4 hits, scoring the only run on Rusty Leedy’s sacrifice fly to right in the sixth. Leedy drove in Tommy Revell who entered the game as a pinch runner after Grant Allgire stroked a double and Cole Ducey moved him to third with a single. Starting pitcher Chris Brookey gave up two runs on 5 hits, 2 Ks and no BBs in six innings of work. The loss drops the Mavericks into a tie for third in the Palomar League with Poway. The Mavericks square off against the Titans at home Friday at 3:30 p.m.

In a tightly contested game, the Mavs capitalized on a Falcon’s error to win 3-2 in the bottom of the 8th inning. Sean Soto started strong going 3-1/3 innings and striking out four. He was relieved by Michael Cruz who struck out six and earned his 4th win. The Mavericks limited the Falcons to four hits. The Mavs collected five hits and scored two runs in the 3rd. Tyler Wells singled to drive in Grant Allgire. Rusty Leedy scored on an error. In the bottom of the 8th Rusty Leedy scored on a close play at the plate. LCC is tied for second place in the league with Poway and Westview. The Mavs play at Westview on Wednesday at 3:30.

The Mavs were shut out by the Broncos 3-0 in a pitcher’s duel between Travis Zabel and Tyler Wells. Wells pitched the entire game allowing only 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Zabel gave up only one hit. The lone Maverick hit was collected by Grant Allgire. The Mavericks play Torrey Pines at home on Monday at 3:30.

Sean Soto and Michael Cruz combined for a solid pitching performance in the 4-3 win over Mt. Carmel. The Mavs’ bats came alive in the sixth inning when Rusty Leedy hit a 3-run homer to tie the Sundevils 3-3. Tommy Revell doubled and Michael Oman singled to drive in the go-ahead run. The Mavs play the Broncos at Rancho Bernardo on Friday at 3:30.
