Gerhartz Picked Up by Northwoods League
Andy Gerhartz became the 4th National in the past year to get a pro opportunity when he agreed to a 10 day contract last week with the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League. Gerhartz has been a regular producing member of the starting lineup and will likely be signed to a longer deal in the near future.
Gerhartz joins last year's team and league batting champion, Jesse Hart, in the Northwoods League. Hart was signed earlier by the La Crosse Loggers and is currently the team's starting second baseman.
Late last season the Nationals lost pitcher Brandon Kellbach to the Frontier League's Windy City Thunderbolts. Kellbach remains in the bullpen this season.
Also lost was Ken Poniewaz. Poniewaz, a shortstop, was signed away by the California Golden League last year and had a brief stay before being released.
