Two Nationals Named 1st Team All WSL

Posted by Steve Elliott at Oct 12, 2017 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Congrats to Brian Huntzinger and Chase Scharnek who were both honored by the league's GM's as 1st Team all league selections.

Huntzinger was an unanimous all league selection at 2nd base and Scharnek was all league as a Utility player.

Neither player had an all league clause in their contracts.

The West Allis Nationals travelled to Lombard, IL on Saturday for a DH and were successful in avoiding the dreaded split as the Orioles swept the locals by scores of 13-1 and 7-1.

It was not the best day for the Nationals defense.   That's all I'm goin say about that.

Since we're all about being positive in 2017, there were a number of takeaways that the team can build upon entering this week's season ending State Tournament in Sheboygan.

1.  Nationals pitchers continued a positive trend of attacking the strike zone.

2.  Huntz's sunscreen wasn't tainted like Mexican liquor this week.   Full protection for his delication complexion.

3.  High Life can be freed from its aluminum prison, releasing its tender nectar in a glass conduit.

4.  No one met Karas at the top.

5.  Only thing better than an O'Hare Oasis massage chair....well, Nationals, Inc. is still working on the prototype.

6.  Tall Balls' ERA vs the Nationals is 27.00

7.  We've confirmed that Lombard's sprinkler system is functioning and it tact.  Thanks, 11.

8.  We've confirmed #20's chirping can be suppressed by a surgical procedure.

9.  Sodey and Schmiddle don't gut teammates and are the first to rise when an opponent is in crisis.

10.  The van continues to handle exceptionally well.

Nationals Enter Home Stretch

Posted by Steve Elliott at Jul 26, 2017 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Rained out last night in Sheboygan, the West Allis Nationals now begin their final push to close the 2017 regular season and start 2017 postseason play.

While the club's postseason tournament seeding has already been established, the team does have it sights set on winning regular season record.   The squad sits at 15 league wins and has three chances to achieve that end.  The first two won't be easy - a Sat DH at league leading Lombard.    Lombard sits at 21-4 in league play.   After that the team begins play in the Wisconsin Class A State Championship double elimination tournament.   Game one is Wednesday August 2 at 7pm against Sheboygan.   The outcome of that game will also be counted toward the regular season standings as a makeup for last night's rainout.

Win or lose against Sheboygan on Wednesday, the team will play again on Friday in Sheboygan at 9pm against either the Kenosha Kings or the DePere Dodgers.

What happens next is up for grabs.   Depending on whether the team makes its journey through the winner's bracket or the loser's bracket, there's a variety of game time and game opponent scenarios that could occur.   What is known is that all games will be in Sheboygan and if the team keeps winning games, they'll keep playing on Saturday and Sunday.

Other teams in the tournament - and possible opponents include the Pewaukee Muskies, Sussex Cardinals, West Bend 7Up and Clyman Canners.   The Kewaskum A's were eliminated last night by West Bend in a play in game.

Stay tuned to this site, Facebook, the Wisconsin State League and the SEWBL sites and social media for updates and results.
