Nats Walk Past Merchants

Posted by Steve Elliott at Jul 17, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The West Allis Nationals exercised a patient approach on Saturday against the Kenosha Merchants of the Land O Lakes League.   15 Nationals reached base via base on balls and the team cruised to a 14 - 3 victory.

When the locals did see pitches to hit, they were quick to capitalize.   6 of the Nationals 9 hits were for extra bases.    Erik Martwick and Ben Kuhlmann led the way with 2 doubles each.

Alex Kingsley started the game on the bump.   He held the Merchants scoreless for three innings before giving way to Curt Pryal.   Pryal pitched the middle two innings, allowing one run, before Jimmy Jungbauer came in to close out the game.

Next up for the Nationals are the three time defending champion Kenosha Kings.   The Nats will make their second trip of the week to Kenosha to face the Kings at historic Simmons Field on Thursday night at 7:30pm.   Tickets are still available.

Late Rally Pushes Nats by Racine

Posted by Steve Elliott at Jul 13, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Matt Soderlund's two out, two run single in the bottom of the seventh plated Tom Zimmerman and Jimmy Jungbauer and this proved to be the difference Tuesday night as the Nationals prevailed 2-1.

A well pitched game on both sides, neither offense was able to generate many threats.    The Nats were unable to push runs across in the 4th, 5th, or 6th after putting runners in scoring position; Racine, conversely was unable to get a runner in scoring position until the 6th but made the most of the opportunity.  Mike Johnson singled home Zach O'Haver with two outs.

It was an exceptional night for Nationals pitchers.    All three were called into emergency use on short rest and all three rose to the challenge.     Curt Pryal worked the first six innings after a seven inning outing on Saturday.   He allowed only three hits and one walk while striking out 5.    Alex Kingsley threw the next two on the tail of his own six inning outing on Saturday.   Kingsley needed only 25 pitches to hold the Kiwanis scoreless in the seventh and eighth.   Jimmy Jungbauer then closed the door.   Jungbauer threw the final inning, settling in after allowing a lead off single and a walk, and earned his third save of the year.

Next up for the Nationals are the Kenosha Merchants in a non-league contest.   The game is set to begin at 1PM on Saturday at Carthage College in Kenosha.
