Despite falling behind early in both games, the Nationals demonstrated patience and grit in defeating Cream City 7-6 and 11-2. In game one, starter Jim Dettman struggled early, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits in the first inning. Cream City pitcher Nate Schwartz held the Nationals in check until the third inning when Andy Butorac unloaded a bases clearing triple and Joe Reisinger added a run scoring single. The Nationals had to battle back again in the fifth. After falling behind 6-4, the Nationals added a single tally in the fifth and two more in the sixth, highlighted by Chris Marks' double. Jim Dettman earned the victory going 6 plus with 10 strikeouts. Game two started much the same way as game one. The Nationals fell behind 2-0 as Nick Kibler was touched for four first inning hits. Kibler settled down, though, allowing only one more hit over the next four innings and the offense came to life. Mark Van Hart's four RBI's led the way. The Nationals enter the All Star break at 13-0 and 16-1 overall.
