Nationals Split Sunday Games Against Lombard and Addison Illinois

Posted by Steve Elliott on Jul 09 2017 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Season

The Nationals bounced back from an 11-0 drubbing by the Lombard Orioles Sunday morning and salvaged a side of pride with an 11-8 afternoon victory over the Addison Braves.

Lombard separated from the Nationals early in the morning game and never looked back.  The lone Nationals highlight was Matt Richer making his mound debut, throwing a scoreless two thirds of an inning.

In the afternoon affair the Nats took and early 2-0 lead and built it to 11-2 before Addison cashed in late. Starter Vinnie Pieters went a strong 5 innings to earn his first Nationals win.   Vinnie allow only one hit and one earned run while striking out three.   Dan Scallon led the offense with three hits and three RBI.   Adam Cibulka, Kyle Kalkopf, Garrett Gilbert added multi hit games.

Drew Evanson returned to the lineup and added two knocks of his own after sleeping thru the morning game in the team van with the flu.   Or something like that.
