News and Announcements
The players have suggested that the team have early morning practices on Fridays to work on their shooting. We will begin this week at 7:30AM.
Team Dues are to be in before the home game against Rothesay or the players will not be able to play until they do so.
The JV girls received their first win of the season by defeating the Grand Manan Breakers by a score of 54-27 which also makes this their highest scoring game to date. The team continues to impress everyone by showing improvement every time they step on the floor. During the game Rachelle Fulton went down with an ankle injury in the second quarter leaving the team with no post players since Jackie Beckett has been out with an arm injury for about a week. The team pulled together and did what they needed to do to win the game. The three stars of the game were Emily Mallet who scored a season high 14 points, Abby Hudson who had a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and also put on a great defensive performance and the third star goes to the entire HVHS JV Girls Basketball team for thier outstanding performance.
Our team is coming together and we can all see an improvment in them every time they step on the floor. We had a great first quarter but the second quarter we fell apart and did not score a basket. Then we came together again and scored 18 in the 3rd quarter and 31 in the entire second half giving us a total of 39 points which is the most we have had in any game so far. We only had 8 players so I beleive we can beat the SJHS JV girls the next time we play them. The 3 stars of the game were Abby who worked hard on getting open on the fast break everytime we grabbed a defensive rebound, Emily who played great offensively by attacking the basket every chance she got and Erin who played really hard on defence.
Game 1 Vs. St. Macs – Jayne and Blondie for their defensive efforts and Rachelle for her offensive play.
Game 2 vs. Rothesay – We let Rothesay know we meant business in the first quarter by showing them we can play now we have to put together another 3 quarters of that type of play – 3 stars: Blondie for continuously cutting on the offense, Acorn and Emily for boxing out. Game 3 vs Simonds – best game yet. The girls finally pulled together and got a bit angry playing defense and it showed. The score does not reflect how well they played. 3 Stars – Abby for her hard work, Jayne for her great offensive performance and Blondie for her great all around game which helped her win a tournament all star award.
