TAPPS Eastern Regional Championships (HS Swimming)

January 26th, 2015 – University of Houston Student Rec Center

The Village Viking HS team competed in their first ever Eastern Regional Swimming Championships at the University of Houston. No one knew quite what to expect as this was the Viking HS Swimmers first time at a state qualifying meet. In the end, when the pool had calmed down, the men’s and the women’s teams each finished by sending 4 swimmers to The State Championships to take place in San Antonio on February 12th. Overall the Viking Swimmers finished 13th out of 24 total teams in the combined team scores. Way-to-go!

The rest of the team represented the Vikings well and there were many strong finishes scoring points. Nicole K took home top honors in the 200 IM and was part of both women’s relays that qualified for state championships, (Katya H, Kierra C, Hazel S). Individual qualifiers for state champs are: Nikole K – 200 IM & 100 Fr, Kiera C – 200 Fr, Hazel S – 100 BR.

On the Men’s side, the 200 Free Relay, (Sam Z, Nikita Z, Denis F and Dillon C) was able to garner an automatic berth in the state Championships and is waiting to hear on the 200 Medley Relay. Individual qualifiers for state champs are: Nikita Z – 50 Free, and Dennis F – 50 Fr & 100 BK.
Congratulations to all the other swimmers who competed in the meet, Patricia B, Maria M and Kiyomi O, I am very proud of what the team was able to accomplish in our inaugural season and am looking forward to helping Village build a strong and noteworthy swimming tradition.
