We will follow the same procedures for early dismissal as with our last away meet during the week.
CMS 3:15- parents will be responsible for providing transportation to the high school. Spring Hill 3:15 and Chapin High School 3:30.We will depart from the parking lot behind the arena near the field house end of the football field( if you facing the school from Columbia Ave it is the far left of the school ). The bus will depart at 4 PM. I will notify the top 21 runners who are on the bus at our practice Monday. Parents can transport their athlete to Pelion to run if they are not in the top 21. Please remember to sign out with Coach Hines at the meet if your athlete is riding home with you. We require all athletes to remain at the meet until the end of the awards ceremony.
Race times are:
5:30 all boys
6:00 all girls
Awards following the completion of the girls race.
This is a big meet with least 20 teams.
A special thanks to all the parents who helped with the Lake Murray Invitational. Meet results are on Strictlyrunning.com as well as scrunners.com. Scrunners has a photo gallery as well as a history . John Olsen does a great job of coverage of cross country and track – check it out.
There were 41 registered schools and 1336 athletes at the meet and coaches and visiting parents/spectators were very complimentary of the meet and of the large parent volunteer force we had!!
This meet is considered by many coaches to be the most competitive meet in the state in terms of the quality of the teams participating and I agree.
Ok is the test to see if you are really reading all of the email- Oct 1 meet is Senior Day. We will honor our seniors and their parents at that meet!!!
Varsity Eagles fight through to a 36-35 victory in double overtime over Brookland Cayce!
Thursday will be picture day. Please bring uniforms . Group and individual pix will be made and the photographer will provide a cd for those who order one. I will get details on prices etc before Thursday.
Lake Murray Invitational is this Saturday at CCP The first race is at 8:30 AM.
The schedule of races is:
8:30 JV GIrls
9:15 JV Boys
10:00 Varsity Girls
10:45 Varsity Boys
Awards follow the finish of the boys varsity race at the picnic tables near the restrooms.
I would ask those:
1. Who worked the finish line for our home meets 2. Who monitored the field 3.Stephen Ussery who directs traffic-to please help at those areas for LMI.
We need someone who can help park the buses at the Baptist Church. A parent of a varsity runner would work best because they can finish with the parking by 9:30 and get to watch their athlete race.
I’ve ask Irmo( our partner since the inception of the race) to provide a person for the bus parking as well as monitors for the course but I want to have back ups – just in case. I’ll have a better perspective on that early in the week.
To do a great job of monitoring the course we would need 12 monitors- the least we can get by on is 8. I’v they can help. If these other sources do not come through I will ask our supporters to help out on the monitoring- one of the worst things in a race is to have a poorly monitored course and runners go the wrong way.
Susan and Lisa have volunteered to handle t shirt sales , collection of checks for entry fee if any one decides to bring the check instead of mailing it, and take care of distribution of race numbers.
The Lake Murray Invitational course is different from our home course. CCP has had it certified and it goes around both the elementary and middle schools.
LMI attracts teams from all over the state and we usually have 35 or so teams- and it is a strong field as well- teams I know are coming include Riverside, Wade Hampton,,James Island,Summerville,Spartanburg, Eastside, Dutch Fork, River Bluff and Heathwood. Everything is done electronically in terms of registration etc so I won’t know whose coming until we download the data for race numbers Thursday night- these are teams whose coaches have told me they will be there.
Lastly Coach HInes and I were very proud of our runners this past Saturday at the Coaches Classic race. The 7 races had 3200 total runners combined! There was an hour delay due to lightning and we all had to sit on the bus then as the day progressed it got more humid and extremely hot. Every single runner maintained a positive attitude and gave their all in the races. Times were slow due to the heat and humidity but every runner achieved a goal for their great effort ,cooperation and exemplary behavior.
You can see the results on scrunners.com. We ran our varsity runners in the International Division that was mainly elite AAAA schools. In assessing our performance against AAA schools both the boys and girls were among the top AAA teams.
The Process Is the Goal
Thanks to a parent it was brought to my attention that I had not given information about where the meet tomorrow is being run!! I know there are many parents new to cross country- so here it goes.
SandHills Clemson Extention-
go towards Florence on I-20
take the Clemson exit, turn left after exiting I-20 and continue until you see Village at Sandhills mall on your left and on your right your will see the entrance to Clemson Extention Sandhills where the meet is being held. There will be a charge for parking. Keep your fingers crossed on the weather.
The Process Is the Goal

Due to unforeseen events beyond the control of the Eagle Board, the Scoreboard project has experienced delays. The project is still moving forward but the new unveiling date will be on September 19th at the Brookland-Cayce game. This week’s Newberry game will go forward with the temporary board. We appreciate everyone’s patience!
