On February 20-21, the Chapin Eagles visited Westminster, SC for the Upper State Tournament and returned home with 5 State Qualifiers. The Eagles were lead by First-Place finishers Paul Collingwood at 120 pounds who used a combination strength, quickness, and intelligent wrestling to earn a tense, hard-fought decision, and Trent Hodges at 195 pounds who used quick thinking and cat-like reflexes to record his victory with a pin. Taylor Cabe (126 pounds), Nick Martini (160 pounds), and Austin Jeffords (285 pounds) all earned Fourth-Place finishes. Chapin was one of only two schools to qualify wrestlers in all 14 weight classifications for Upper State.
The State Tournament will be held on February 27-28 in Anderson, SC where eight wrestlers from each weight class will square off to battle for the title of State Champion. Go Eagles.
The unseasonably cold weather has really put a strain on spring teams as they battle low temps and fierce winds.
Changes to schedules this week include:
Varsity Baseball Scrimmage vs. Irmo moved from Thursday night 2/19 to Saturday Afternoon 2/21 at 1 pm
Varsity Girls and JV Girls Soccer Scrimmage scheduled for Thursday night 2/19 cancelled.
Please stay tuned for more updates.
The Upper State Individual tournament will include the 16 top
wrestlers from 4 regions and will be a significant test as the pyramid narrows quickly
near the top. The tournament will be held in Seneca on February 20-21. The top four
finishers will qualify for the State Finals on February 27-28.
Former Chapin Eagles athletics director and football coach Eddie Muldrow will be inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association Hall of Fame next month.
Muldrow led the Chapin athletics program and football team for 25 years, retiring in 2006. He led the Eagles to five region titles in football and posted a 169-119 record. Muldrow served as head coach in the 2001 North-South All-star game, and twice was named Columbia Touchdown Club Coach of the Year.
