Make a difference!

Posted by Roger Otterson at Jan 31, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Work Party Sunday

This Sunday (Feb. 25) from 9 AM until Noon-ish, we're looking for parents, coaches, players and friends to help us get YOUR fields ready for the start of our new season.

This is our last weekend before Opening Day on March 3rd, and this is your chance to make a difference! Not only is this a great way to get in several of your volunteer hours, but you will set a great example for your kids and your community.

The Projects are simple and you do NOT need to be a trade expert in any way. We just need your participation, desire, and effort. We'll even supply the doughnuts.

We'll be spreading dirt on all three fields, trimming and shaping the mounds on all our fields, weeding, cleaning and putting up our new scoreboard on the Padres field. Come join your friends Sunday morning!

Even if you only have an hour or two, every bit helps. See you Sunday morning!

LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP!

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Nov 28, 2014 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
FINAL TRYOUT JAN. 23 – SIGN UP NOW!
With our final tryout this Saturday, we'll soon be forming teams, practicing and looking forward to Opening Day of our 60th Anniversary season!

But you still have a last chance to get your kid signed up. We'll be back at Cadman Park on Saturday, January 23, and if your child is 7 or older, they must tryout that day. See below for the complete tryout schedule.

Thanks to the generosity of our fine sponsors, we can again offer the biggest bargain in youth sports, with registration fees as low as just $48 per child! Yes, we’re still asking you to do our easy candy fundraiser or make a $60 buyout, but if you choose to sell three boxes of candy, you can really get your kid into a full season of fun, safe, Little League baseball for a net cost of only $48! Or, you can sell two boxes of candy and your registration fee is just $68. But don’t procrastinate, because once the candy is gone, you’ll have to pay a full $128 to sign up.

We will also collect a Volunteer Deposit of $50 per child up to $100. We will ask that you provide six hours of volunteer time for each child you have in the program. These hours can be accumulated by working in the snack bar (3 hrs per shift), umpiring (3 hrs per game), field maintenance, coaching, scorekeeping, team parents, helping with special events like Opening Day, and many other ways. Once you have volunteered your hours, your deposit will be returned. Look for the Volunteer table at signups for all the details.

Any child who will be 4-years-old by August 31, 2016 (but not yet 19-years-old), is eligible to play Little League Baseball this year. Come to registration with an original birth certificate for each child, along with three proofs of residency. You will need to fill out an application and medical release for each player you sign up. To save time at signups, click on the “Handout” at the end of this article and look for “2016 Season Forms.” Download the application and medical release, fill them out, and bring them with you on December 12. If you are interested in coaching, you should also fill out and bring the Volunteer Application.

If you have questions about signups or need additional information, you can contact Player Agent Michelle Mendez (619-977-6018), Vice President Mike Van Cleave (858-525-5635), or League Information Officer Ken Cicalo (619-889-9216). You can also call our Hotline number: (858-483-9857) for updates or to leave voicemails.

Look at All The Padres...

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Nov 28, 2014 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
We’re excited to announce that teams in our Rookie, Farm and Minors division will once again be wearing beautiful uniforms donated by the San Diego Padres during the 2015 season. These high quality uniforms are as nice as any uniforms worn by Little Leaguers anywhere, and we are once again grateful to the Padres for continuing this generous program. The program also includes matching coaches shirts, game tickets and, new this year, a photo contest for a chance for an entire team to win a suite for a night at Petco Park. It’s going to be fun to see all those little Jedd Gyorkos and Andrew Cashners running around again this year.

Little League Age Changes

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Nov 28, 2014 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

There has been a lot of discussion about Little League Baseball transitioning to a new date for determining a player's league age and eligibility. Up until now, a player's age on April 30th was used to determine his or her league age. Beginning with this coming season, Little League is beginning to use December 31st as the determination date.

Before becoming confused or too concerned about this process, the first thing to know is that most players will not be affected by the change. If your child was born in 2005 or prior, there will be no affect on their status this year. Also, if your child's birthdate falls in January through April of any year, there will never be an impact for them either.

Kids who will be affected are those with May through December birthdays AND who were born in 2006 or later. For those children, if they played last year, they will be advancing two years in league age in 2015. For example, if a player was born on May 1, 2007, they would have played in 2014 as a 6-year-old, but will play in 2015 as an 8-year-old. This does not mean your child will necessarily play in a different division than you previously expected. Players will still be evaluated to be placed in the level most appropriate for their skill and social development.

Little League's goal with this transition is to eventually simplify the age determination process, as everyone born in any one calendar year will have the same league age. Also, this change is an effort to keep kids from "outgrowing" the field dimensions that they play on. Our board members will be happy to answer any questions you have about this change when you come to registration.

Little League's New Intermediate Division

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Nov 27, 2012 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Beginning with the Spring 2013 season Little League is introducing the new Intermediate Division, perhaps the most significant change in the structure of Little League in the last 30 years.

Clairemont Hilltoppers is excited to announce that we will be offering this great new division in the regular season for the first time.

Previously known as the 50/70 division, Hilltoppers players have experimented with this style of play during the past two Fall Ball seasons with universal enjoyment.

Featuring a pitching distance of 50 feet and base paths of 70 feet, this new division will be for players who are league-age 11 & 12. Intermediate will replace the traditional Majors division within our league. It will include full postseason tournament opportunities, including a World Series. A 13-year-old who feels strongly that they are not ready for Juniors will also be allowed to play Intermediate, but they will not be eligible for All-Stars.

The Intermediate division serves as a bridge between the current “Little League” size field (46’ pitching distance, 60’ base paths) and a standard baseball diamond with 60.5’ pitching and 90’ base paths. Some of the differences in the new division compared to Majors include, leadoffs, pickoffs, headfirst slides and 7-inning games. Bat rules for this new division are still being finalized. Please don’t purchase a bat for either Juniors or Intermediate play until we get final word from Little League Baseball.

If you have questions or would like more information about this new division, please contact Ken Cicalo (619-889-9216 • KenC1313@yahoo.com) or Mike Van Cleave (858-525-5635 • mvancleave@san.rr.com)
