Everyone Wins on Opening Day!

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Mar 1, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
What a way to start the new season!

With hundreds of kids playing ball, special guests, music, prizes, great food and daylong fun, Opening Day 2009 was a hit at Clairemont Hilltoppers.

Starting with our T-Ball games that morning and continuing through our Opening Ceremonies, there was lots of excitement to get things kicked off. Many thanks to Dave Scott and the KUSI Morning News, who entertained and reported on it all.

Thanks also to Navy Lieutenant Nicole Benson for singing our National Anthem, and to the Marine Color Guard from Air Station Miramar and the Marine representatives from the Infantry Division at Camp Pendleton. We were honored to have these military members help make our Opening Day more special.

It was again a treat to have City Councilwoman Donna Frye greet our families, and she selected Brianna Leigh-Pink of the Juniors Red Sox to throw out our season's first pitch. Jacob Frushone led all of our players and coaches in the Little League pledge, and we had ten winners of raffle prizes ranging from bats and helmets, to hitting sticks and gift certificates.

We were also pleased to have our District Administrator Lisa LaPage and West Region Director Jim Gerstenslager join us for our Opening Ceremonies. We take great pride in being part of the Little League program, and it's always nice to have those from up the chain of command recognize our efforts.

Thanks to the generosity of Outback Restaurant, we raised over $1000 from our BBQ on Opening Day, and their delicious donation to our program and always friendly service is greatly appreciated.

Most of all, thanks to all of the many, many volunteers who once again put in the time to make Opening Day and the 2009 season possible. From the coaches and team parents, to the board members and all of the parents who put in hours to get our park looking its bright and shiny best, thank you again. We all look forward to many more special days in this 53rd season of Clairemont Hilltoppers Little League.

7 p.m. in Cadman School Auditorium

Parent
Orientation
January 30

Whether you are new to our league with a 4-year-old venturing into T-Ball, or a longtime veteran watching your fourth child, you have questions about what to expect for the 2019 season.

Parent Orientation Night is when you get all the answers. On Wednesday, January 30 we will offer Parent Orientation for parents of all kids. At least one parent from families with players who are 4- to 8-years-old, or those new to our league are required to attend. Adults only if possible.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Cadman Elementary School Auditorium. Please bring your signed Parent Contract (which you received at registration). More copies are available that night at the door. You can also download the contract in the handout at the end of this article.

Please arrive early to turn in your Parent Contract (doors open at 6:30). Have a snack and talk with other Hilltoppers parents so we can start promptly at 7:00. Use the North Field entrance off of Kamloop and park on the school playground. IMPORTANT -->> The entrance and playground are dark, so drive slow and watch for others on foot.

If you have either birth certificates or proofs of registration that were not available at registration, please be sure to bring them on this night to be verified. This will also be your last chance to finish any outstanding payment.

Parent Orientation will be a fun, entertaining event, with door prizes, refreshments and lots of great information for every parent. This is your opportunity to find out about your league, meet other parents and hear about the excitement we have planned for the 2019 season.

We are going to finish by 8:15 p.m., so please arrive early, as both parking and seating will be tight at Cadman Elementary. And since space in the auditorium is very limited, we ask only parents to attend, if possible. If you have any questions about Parent Orientation contact
Michelle Mendez (619-977-6018 • michholm7@yahoo.com), Kristin Luck-Slay (480-358-5832 • mamaslay@gmail.com) or Ken Cicalo (619-889-9216 • kenc1313@yahoo.com).

Thank you for 63 years of support to Clairemont Hilltoppers Little League.

Clairemont Hilltoppers is sporting a brand new look for our exciting 50th season in 2006. In what has been (and continues to be) a very busy offseason, a number of significant improvements are taking shape. Foremost among these is the building of an all-new scorebooth building on our Padres field. This scorebooth, envisioned as part of our master plan when the Little Padres Park was built in 1998, has been the cause of both frustration and anticipation in the years since the field was first opened. But thanks to the leadership of Bob Faudoa, this is becoming a reality. The basic structure is up, and our dedicated volunteers are working furiously to finish walls, windows, roofing and electricity. Obviously, the goal is to have this project completed by Opening Day, March 4th. In order to do this we need help from our Hilltoppers family. If you or anyone you know has construction skills, might be able to get materials donated, or are willing to be a sponsor for part of this project, please contact Bob Faudoa ASAP at 858-273-2263 or garyengca@aol.com. We have had some great volunteer efforts from Robert Holder, Joel LeBlanc, Dave Granfors, Dave Purcell, Bill Salonius, Martin Iniguez, Ian Miles, Troy Keltner and many others. Many thanks to them, but we will need more help to see this to its conclusion.imageimage
