News and Announcements

Complete the survey below to pre-register for the 12U Summer Villagers tryout.  All players must be pre-registered in order to tryout.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PARENTS:
A high-level schedule for each Villagers team will be distributed during the parents meeting that will be held at the beginning of the tryouts.  It is very important that you are aware of the Villagers schedule and expected commitment before the tryouts.  Players who are selected to a Villagers team must commit to play through the end of the summer season and are expected to make a full commitment to the Villagers.  If players have commitments to other activities, schedule conflicts or known absences (e.g., planned vacations), then these must be disclosed at the time of tryouts.  All players will be required to turn in a Tryout & Commitment Form at the first tryout and should list any conflicts or absences on this form.

2017 All-Star Game

6:00 PM - Junior Division

8:00 PM - Senior Division

All-Star Players are selected by the Receation Softball coaches and the MSO Softball Committee

The charity for this year's All-Star Game and for Softball Weekend is Girls Helping Girls. Period.

Girls Helping Girls. Period. or GHGP is a family run charity based in South Orange and was founded by the Joy family who are very involved in MSO Softball.  GHGP provides a year's supply of feminine hygiene products to each girl or woman it helps.  The products, which are not covered by food stamps or other social programs, can be very expensive, and GHGP's mission is to relieve families of the burden for a whole year, so that their clients can focus on more important matters like staying at school and work.  In their first year, GHGP has helped more than 350 girls with a full year's supply of tampons and pads.  All of the recipients are in Maplewood/South Orange and surrounding towns.

On Softball Weekend we invite you to please drop off donations of feminine hygiene products (new boxes only please) in the collection bin at the check-in tent.  You can also make a monetary donation to GHGP HERE.  To learn more about GHGP's work and services check them out HERE.

Weekend Schedule

This year's festivities and competition will be spread over three days - June 3rd, 4th & 5th.

Friday:  The weekend kicks off on Friday, June 3rd at 6:00pm with the Recreation Softball All-Star Game played on Meadowlands #3.

Saturday:  The competition begins on Saturday, June 4th at 10:00am when the inital round of Rookie Division playoff games are played at Maplecrest Park in Maplewood.  The Saturday game schedule will be published below in late-May.  NOTE:  There will be consolation games on Sunday for all teams who are eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday, so ALL teams will play on Sunday regardless of whether they win or lose on Saturday.

Sunday:  The festivities and competition continue on Sunday, June 5th at 9:30am when ALL TEAMS compete in playoff games at Meadowlands Park in South Orange.  The Sunday game schedule will be published below in late-May.

Rule Changes for Playoffs

In order to ensure that all games can be played within the allotted timeframes while remaining competitive, the following rule changes will be in effect for games played on Softball Weekend:

  1. There will be no innings limits for pitchers in the Junior and Senior Divisions on Softball Day.
  2. All games (except the championship games) will be played with no new inning after 1 hr 10 min.  The championship games will be played to the full 6 innings.
  3. Extra innings will be played under international tiebreaker rules.  For games that are time boxed (all games except the championship games), any inning that has to start after the 1 hr 10 min time limit will be deemed extra innings and will immediately go to international tiebreaker rules.  International tiebreaker rules dictate that each half-inning will start with a runner (last batted out) on 2nd base.  It is NOT sudden death; each team has an opportunity to bat each inning. The game ends when one team is ahead at the end of an inning.
  4. Rookie Division Only:  All teams will bat 7 batters per inning regardless of the number of girls on the roster for the game.  The number of batters will not change for the last inning of the game.
  5. Rookie Division Only:  Rule #6 (Hits to the Outfield) will be modified to reflect that a ball does not need to be in the control of an infielder for runners to stop advancing; the ball only needs to be in the infield.  See the Recreation Softball Rules for the full text of Rule #6.
