MSO Villagers Softball Program
Villagers Softball Program
The MSO travel softball program - the Villagers - is active all year round but includes three separate and distinct seasons - Spring, Summer and Fall. In addition, MSO Softball offers Villagers players with training opportunities during the winter months to help them keep their skills sharp in the off-season. The Villagers program is more intense than the Recreation Softball program and requires girls to participate in competitive tryouts in order to make the teams. Separate tryouts are held each season for each of the age brackets (as shown below). More detailed information can be found on the following season-specific pages within the MSO Softball website:
Suburban Villagers - 6th, 7th & 8th grades
Summer Villagers - 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U
Fall Villagers - 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U
Also, be sure to come back often to check the Calendar for important dates as well as the MSO Softball page for information on upcoming events.

Additional Softball Training
There are numerous local facilities that offer softball clinics, group lessons and private instruction. These are resources for players to continue to develop their softball skills year-round. For more information of softball training facilities, see the Links section which describe some specific softball clinics that are currently being offered in the area.
Note: These lists are purely for your information and convenience; MSO Softball does not support or endorse any of these businesses.
Reserving Fields for Practice
Coaches can reserve fields for practices through the Maplewood Recreation Department, starting the week of April 2nd. Practices will be 1 hour long to accommodate more teams.
To reserve one of the fields at DeHart, Memorial or Maplecrest parks, coaches should email Ronnie Quacquarini at the Maplewood Recreation Department- please no phone calls.
NOTE: Descriptions and locations of the fields can be found on the Field Locations page.

Is there a difference between the three Villagers Softball seasons?
Is there a difference between the three Villagers Softball seasons?
Yes.
The Suburban Villagers program is essentially the middle school team and is therefore limited to players in 6th through 8th grades. The Suburban team is very competitive, and all games are played to win. Because the team is selected through a competitve tryout, not all players who tryout will make the team. There are currently no Villagers teams for younger players during the spring season, although some of the Summer Villagers teams may elect to hold their tryouts earlier than others and begin play in the spring.
The Summer Villagers program is open to players of all ages. The summer season is very competitive, and all games are played to win. As with all Villagers teams, because teams are selected through competitive tryouts, not all players who tryout will make the teams.
The Fall Villagers program is open to players of all ages. While games are still played to win, the fall season is more developmental with a focus on learning new skills, techniques and strategies. The Fall Villagers teams may “play up” to the next age bracket in order to familiarize players with new rules and identify areas of need for the coming year. As with all Villagers teams, because teams are selected through competitive tryouts, not all players who tryout will make the teams.
