Intermediate Volleyball Rule Changes for Fall 2009 Session Based on a vote from the team captains, we have decided to implement the following rule changes based on the 2009 USVBA rule book. Center Line The rule for center line faults have been changed so that parts other than the foot are now allowed to touch the opponent’s court as long as it does not interfere with the opponent’s play. Here are the new rules: 11.2.2 Penetration into the opponent’s court, beyond the center line: 11.2.2.1 To touch the opponent’s court with a foot (feet) is permitted, provided that some part of the penetrating foot (feet) remains either in contact with or directly above the center line. 11.2.2.2 To touch the opponent’s court with any part of the body above the feet is permitted provided that it does not interfere with the opponent’s play. Contact with the Net Incidental net contact, even when playing the ball is no longer a fault as long as it does not interfere with the opponent’s play. Contact with the top tape while playing the ball is still a fault however. Here are the new rules: 11.3.1 Contact with the net by a player is not a fault, unless it interferes with the play. 11.3.2 Players may touch the post, ropes, or any other object outside the antennae, including the net itself, provided that it does not interfere with play. 11.A player interferes with the opponent’s play by (amongst others): - touching the top band of the net or the top 80 cm (2’ 7.49”) of the antenna during his/her action of playing the ball, or - taking support from the net simultaneously with playing the ball, or - creating an advantage over the opponent, or - making actions which hinder an opponent’s legitimate attempt to play the ball. These changes will go into effect immediately. Any questions about the changes should be directed to Mark Butler.

Air Attack Captures 2002 Winter Championship

Air Attack continued its dominance at the Nashua YMCA, winning the 2002 Winter Championship. Air Attack now claims 10 championships in the last 15 sessions of competition. In the semi-final match, Aim and Hammer proved to be a worthy adversary. However, Aim and Hammer played with only five players and Air Attack was able to take advantage of the missing player. Aim and Hammer lost the match in 2 games (25-19 and 25-13). In the final championship match, Air Attack was paired with the #1 seeded 2002 Winter league team, Block Party. Block Party was able to score defensively and offensively but lost the first game in the series with a very close score of 25-23. In the second game, Air Attack did not join the Block Party and lost with a miserable score or 25-10. In game 3, Air Attack mustered the remaining strength and adrenaline to win the game, match, and championship with a score of 15-12.image
