SOUTH CENTRAL HOLDS OFF GRIZZLIES

Posted by Coach Mo at Nov 7, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

SOUTH CENTRAL 12, PHOENIX GRIZZLIES 6

Whittier's Tyler Brown scored on an 85 yard pass play to put the Grizzlies within reach but it was too much to late.  South Central running backs Mike Ramirez  and Destination Salazar both had multiple 50 yard runs and over 100 total each as South Centrals ball-control offense and effective offensive line play, led by Matt Caldwell was the difference between the two teams.

But it was a small difference as East's linemen, most not as big, did a great job against their bigger opponents, paving the way for their running game, which as nearly as effective.

Both teams, made up of students mostly from the central Phoenix corridors, played very well defensively but the Grizzlies gained an advantage when two later arrivals exposed the edge they had in the passing game.  doubling at linebacker, Brown also had jarring hits on defense.

Chargers 18, Central Phoenix 6

Sullivan's Alex Valdenegro ran for 102 yards, Garbriel Valdenegro returned a pic 6 45 yards for a score and Daniel Chavez threw for 55 yards as the Sullivan Chargers pick up their first win of the season.

This was a close one until a late touchdown by the chargers put the game out of reach.  In the first game of the PSL season, it was back and forth at Sullivans passing game kept the Cougars off balance until a Cougar touchdown late in the second quarter made the score 12-6 at the half.  Running behind a stout offensive line, the Cougar run game showed signs of getting back into the game until late in the 3rd quarter.
