Message from the Concession Managers

Posted by Carla Steinmetz at Mar 21, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Three weeks into the LL season and, for the most part, the concessions are running smoothly. Thanks to all the BOD members and volunteers that have assisted in supporting this endeavor. As many, if not most are aware, the managing/running of the concessions is a very formidable task, just ask. Little did I know just how much effort was to be expended in set up and maintenance of both the east and south concessions. As with any "business", rules and established procedures are in place and must be adhered to. A few recent events have occurred that require us to refocus and follow the published rules/established guidelines.
  • As posted on the entrance door and in the concessions guidelines, NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 16 IS ALLOWED IN THE CONCESSION AREA. The safety manual also states that no one under the age of 16 is allowed to work in the concession area. At certain times, there are multiple pots of very hot coffee/water and several grills/warmers on. Let us be mindful that the rules are in place to protect the children/players, and, let's follow them.
  • ITALIAN ICE - MILL has expended considerable funds to appropriate the freezers, scoops and product. Cared for and dispensed properly, this should yield much profit to MILL. Much effort has also been expended to ensure that the product is staged, and, product containers remain (somewhat) clean - at least their lids. The directions for dispensing the product has been taped onto the top of each ITALIAN ICE freezer. In some instances (visual observations), these instructions have NOT been followed. When dispensing the ITALIAN ICE, please follow the posted rules that include:
    1. SCRAPING the ITALIAN ICE from the top, not scooping out a divot in the product. Scraping the product off of the top, keeping the top somewhat level, ensures that fresh product is always dispensed.
    2. The AMOUNT of product to be dispensed. If memory serves me correctly, it is 1 1/2 scoops, NOT filling the cup to overflow like an ice cream cone.
    3. If a lid gets dirty - clean, wipe dry and return to freezer to cover product. Lids have even been left off of the containers. I don't know about any of you, but, I don't like the way something tastes when "freezer burnt".
    4. Scoops - wash every night.
  • Drink cooler restocking has been good. The coke man should have delivered this afternoon, and , I'll check both tonight.
  • Drinks are free to "working umpires" ONLY - no exception
Carla Williams and I have spent considerable time and effort to set-up and maintain the stock inventories of both concessions (read multiple days prior to opening day, and, every Sunday since). Successful operation of concession stands will result in substantial funding for supplies for our league. Let's all do our part for the kids. Leon Vetsch
