Hustler's 11U Falls to Sykesville

Posted by Ken Oseneek at May 17, 2016 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Hustler's went to Sykesville tonight to face the Cyclones.  The 6:00 contest didn't start until almost 7:00 when the umpires didn't show, but the Hustler's came out hot.  Zach Oseneek led off with a single. Mikhai Evans walked. Then Jay Parente crushed a 2-2 pitch over the right field fence for a three-run homer which gave the Hustler's and early 3 run lead.  Sykesville was also ready to play after the delay.  In the bottom half they were able to plate 7 runs of their own. The Hustler's showed alot of fight over the next 6 innings. They only managed 3 more hits, but only struck out 4 times in the game.  Sykesville played solid defense and we just could get the ball to drop. While our hitter could find a hole Sykesville kept plugging away scoring 5 more runs over the next 6 innings for a final of 12-3.

Hustler's 11U drops two to Gambrills

Posted by Ken Oseneek at May 14, 2016 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Hustler's 11U dropped a double header to Gambrills this weekend.  The first game was close ending 5-3 in Gambrills favor.  Dax Mitchell and Dominic Hallam both pitched well keeping Gambrills bats in check for most the game.  Unfortunately, the Gambrills pitchers were just as effecting holding the Hustler's to two hits.  Zach Oseneek and Mikhai Evans both managed doubles. Evans also scored twice and Mike Dodson added the Hustler's third run.  The defense was solid, but the Hustler's could muster any office in the end.

Game 2 did not revive the Hustler's bats.  They only managed one hit and 3 baserunners for the game, which ended with Gambrills handing the Hustelr's their first shutout of the season.

12U Hustlers Get Knocked Down But Get Back Up

Posted by Wayne Main at May 13, 2016 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Frederick Hustlers forgot to set their alarm clocks for Saturday’s 11:00am opener against the PG Select Blue Sox and found themselves on the wrong end of an 11-1 thrashing. PG’s Luis Noda had something to do with that as he held the black and gold to two hits and one run with four strikeouts in three innings of work. Nick Delisi took the mound for the Hustlers and was deserted by his usually stout defense which committed an uncharacteristic seven errors. The Hustlers only mustered four hits in the five inning game shortened by the run rule. Luke Schlimm led the way with two hits and Ryan Talbert and Dustin Isanogle each contributed one.

Game two was a different story. Schlimm tossed a five inning gem striking out six and only allowing five hits in an 11-1 Hustler blowout. Schlimm dominated and the Hustler bats came to life. The Hustlers had ten hits with JT Sachar going 3-3 with two doubles. Matt Cunningham, Talbert and DeLisi each came thru with key run-scoring hits. Tyler Prather had a double.

The Hustlers are back in action Tuesday evening at Yellow Springs against the Gettysburg Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm on Field 1.

The 12U Hustlers played host to the Olney Pirates on Sunday and came away with a split – winning the first game 6-5 and losing the nightcap 7-6. In the opener, the Pirates scored two quick runs in the top of the first to let the home crowd know that they were there and ready to play. The Hustlers, a new determined bunch comprised of seasoned returning players and several key offseason acquisitions, answered with an emphatic four-spot in the bottom of the inning. Game on. JT Sachar drew a leadoff walk and stole second before Nick DeLisi unleashed a drive to left center for a standup double. Tyler Prather ripped a single and the Hustlers were off and running. Olney recaptured the lead in the third when they scored twice after scoring a single run in second. DeLisi then followed a Sachar single with a bomb to left center to give the home team the lead for good. DeLisi worked a solid four innings and Luke Schlimm came in and pitched a scoreless 5th and 6th inning. DeLisi and Prather led the Hustlers with two hits each.

The Pirates jumped to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play in game two. The Hustlers answered with two runs in the third and one in the fourth on big run scoring hits from Gabe Torres and Ryan Talbert. The Pirates tacked a single run in the third and the held a 4-3 lead going into the 5th inning. Sachar and DeLisi reached safely to start the 5th before Prather homered deep to left center to jolt the Hustler faithful. The Hustlers took that 6-4 lead into the bottom of the last inning where it seemed like a sweep was inevitable. Olney had other ideas as the well-coached ball club is always going to fight until the end. Bryce Greene led off with a sharp single, Cooper Kroll followed with his own base hit before Phil Stasko ended things with a walk-off two-run home run. Prather and Brandon Bradshaw handled the pitching duties for the Hustlers and both threw well. JT Sachar had an all-around impressive day putting together great at bats and playing well defensively at 2B and SS.

12U Hustlers Golden at Ripken Event

Posted by Wayne Main at Apr 30, 2016 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Frederick Hustlers traveled to Aberdeen, MD for the 18-team RIPKEN Gold Glove tournament and played flawless baseball in pool play on Saturday. The Hustlers blanked the Monroe Falcons (Monroe Township, NJ) 6-0 in game one and jumped all over the South Jersey Rams 19-0 in game two. The Hustlers impressive play landed them the #1 seed for Sunday where they were to play the #8 seeded PA Diamond Nine at 8:00am on Cal Sr Field. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and the Sunday slate was cancelled due to heavy rain in the Harford County area all day.

The Saturday opener proved to be a great challenge for the Hustlers as they faced the best arm of the season to date. JT Sachar opened the game with a walk and the big Monroe RHP proceeded to strikeout the Hustlers 2, 3 and 4 hitters. Gabe Torres had different ideas in the second inning. Torres stepped to the plate and after falling behind 0-2 he gave the black and gold a big shot in the arm with a monstrous home run. Torres' homer, measured at 280 feet, flew the outfield of the adjacent field and landed on the infield dirt. The Hustlers kept the pressure on as Ryan Talbert and Dustin Isanogle each singled sharply to center and Ryan Bennett brought Talbert home with a sacrifice bunt. The Hustlers grabbed a 2-0 lead and were feeling good about themselves. The Hustlers would add one in the third and three more in the fifth. Nick DeLisi had huge hits in both innings - picking up a single in the 3rd and a double in the fifth. Talbert's 2-run double in the fifth was the other big blow. Sachar, Brandon Bradshaw, Isanogle and Torres each reached safely twice, and DeLisi and Talbert had two hits. Matt Cunningham, Bradshaw and Luke Schlimm combined to shut out the Falcons. The Hustlers flashed their trademark leather and turned two double plays – one a backbreaker on a long-running ESPN highlight grab by CF Isanogle who then doubled up the runner at first.

Game two was a little déjà vu all over again. The SJ Rams countered with a soft lefty who gave the Hustlers fits in the first inning. Gabe Torres changed all of that in the second when he launched his second bomb of the day – this one landed on the bank before the playground on Cal Sr’s field in left center. The Hustlers then added two in the third and sixteen runs in the fourth to end the game with the run rule. Tyler Prather and Ryan Talbert each had three hits; one of Prather’s was a triple off the wall in straight away center. Bradshaw singled and doubled, and Torres added a double to go with his HR. Sachar and Jake Sherdel each contributed two hits; one of Sherdel’s was a double. Cunningham doubled, and DeLisi and Isanogle each had hits. Tyler Prather was fantastic on the mound tossing three scoreless innings. Bradshaw closed things out with a solid fourth inning.
