HOUSTON - Freshman righthander Ricky Hargrove threw six shutout innings and set a new career high with seven strikeouts to help lead the University of Houston baseball team to a 4-0 win over Sam Houston State on Tuesday at Cougar Field.
Hargrove, who retired nine of the first 10 batters that he faced, collected his first collegiate win and improved to 1-2 this season. The Katy, Texas, native scattered four hits with no walks and allowed only one baserunner beyond first base in the sixth inning after a miscue in the outfield.
