POPPY TAGGING
VMBA has been given an amazing opportunity…
It is with great pleasure to announce a new Gold Level Sponsor to our association, The Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 44 (1410 Kootenay Street). Upon our many talks with regards to this sponsorship an opportunity was put upon VMBA members for us to give back as well. The Royal Canadian Legions organize all the Poppy Tagging (distribution of Poppy’s at various locations). As you know, veterans, cadets (and Legion volunteers) are normally the only volunteers who get this opportunity but they have been struggling with getting to all the locations. So now they have turned to us to ask for help with the poppy distribution. What better way to say THANK YOU to The Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 44) for their Gold Level Sponsorship but more importantly to all our veterans who fought for their freedom and ours! They are asking for our boys and girls to be in uniform (VMBA Summer or Fall Ball shirts will work – hat included) and to have a parent close-by. They can be in groups of two. The distribution of the poppy’s (by minors) is only done between 10:00am -6:00pm and they usually prefer that you volunteer for four 2 hours shift or two 4 hour shifts. But really they will take whatever hours you can spare.Lucky for us, the location they have given us is Champlain Mall (54th & Kerr). Perfect location for most of our players. Oct 26th, Oct 27th,Nov 2nd , Nov 3rd,Nov 9th & Nov 10th
Please contact NADIA as soon as possible if you help out – nadkevmax@shaw.ca.
Thank you so much and remember how important it is for us to give back and for our children to see the importance of giving back. I cannot think of a better way than this. Please note that teenagers (in high school) can get their volunteer hours with this work as well. All the best and thank you for your consideration,Nadia Borean / Tony BoreanVancouver Minor Baseball Fundraiser Co-ordinators
Nicaragua : Baseball Equipment Donation from Vancouver Minor Baseball Association
"The Vancouver Minor Baseball Association was one of a few associations that donated gear, but Vancouver by far was the most generous, and please do pass this letter on to the association, as it would not have happened with out their generosity and Donny Provenzano promoting it so well for me. We will be sending the container if all goes well by the end of October at the latest. My 3 grown sons and I will leave Dec 14th to head to Nicaragua to finish the field. We will play the first game with the locals - Canada against Nica, and I am quite sure they will kick our butts. But that's ok!!!!
One thing Don Montgomery of Monty's Beach Lodge is looking forward to with this new field is to invite the world to play. His vision is to have teams come to Nicaragua, with the coaches volunteering some time to hold clinics for the local youth, with a mini tournament to finish it off. I hope you - the Vancouver Minor Baseball Association would consider something like this down the road. It is a safe place to travel to and would be such an experience for our young boys and their coaches to go through. I am hoping to generate some easy and fun ways to fund raise to help teams raise money for airfare to get there, so keep this in mind, and maybe we can get your talented (so Donny tells me) boys on a life changing experience that would certainly stay with them for life....
Donny Provenzano ,also say a big thank you to the mom who gave you bags and bags of clothes... These clothes are a nice added bonus going on the container. Once again Thank - You All so much for this wonderful gift that is going to Jiquilillo, Nicaragua."
