End of Season Tournament Recaps

Pinto Championship Game

The Orioles fall to the bottom of the tournament bracket during their first game only to crawl their way back by winning all five games to face the Yankees in the Championship game. The O's had somethign to proove and loosing meant the end of a great tournament run. The Yankees were the only team to remain undefeated in the tournament.  The lead changed hands three times during the final game of the season.  Eli Carroll's home run in the fourth inning cleared the right field fence by ten feet with Patrick Hughes on base to tie up the game.  The game went into the seventh inning tied after both teams continued to slug it out.  With Nathan Phillips and Bryce Deraps on base and down by two runs,  Max McEwen hits a walk off home run giving the Yankees the Championship!  Yankees win 17-16!

Pony
Championship Game(s)

The Yankees have been on fire the entire regular season going undefeated.  The EOS Tournament played out like a hollywood sports drama as last Thursday the Yankees lost to the Phillies sending the Yankees into the looser bracket.  The Yankees found themselves having to take the hard road and win both games in double header verses the very team that beat them just two days before to be crowned the Tournament Champions.

Yankees 16 vs Phillies 4

Game 1 the Yankees played with a chip on their shoulder showing they were not going to give up on taking home the championship hardware.  Loosing was not an option for the Yankees as that would place the trophies in the Phillies hands.  The bats were hot and the runs a plenty as the Yankees exerted their will cruising to a 16-4 victory.

Yankees 15 vs Phillies 14

Game 2 was a very different story.  The Phillies would not go down easily.  Late in the game the Phillies and Yankees were tied up in the 6th inning at 11 all.  The 7th inning would provide some offense and the Phillies put up 2 runs.  Going into the bottom of the 7th the Yankess found them selves in yet another do or die situation.  The Yankees would respond and deliver 2 runs knotting the game up at 13-13.  The 8th inning would provide no runs for either team.  The Yankees gave up a run in the top of the 9th inning.  The Yankees managed to get runners in scoring position and ultimately an error would plate the winning run for the Yankees closing out two games and nearly 5 hours of baseball to win the EOS Tournament.

The Phillies fought hard and were part of one of the most intense and hard fought EOS Championships I have seen at WBAC in recent years.  The Yankees are the 2016 Pony Regular Season and EOS Tournament Champions.

Braves 13 vs Cardinals 5

The Braves showed up prepared to battle.  Jackson Tone started on the bump for the Braves and shut down the Cardinals’ batters.  Jackson pitched three innings allowing 1 ht with 2 BB, 6K and allowing 1 run.  Presley Lilley pitched two innings giving up 3 hits, 2 BB and 3 runs.  Jordan Crossland and Josh Morris both hurled an inning for the Braves.  Offensively the Braves combined for 10 hits scoring 13 on the Cardinals pitching.  The Cards managed just 5 singles with RBIs from Josh Rhoden and Noah Barton.   Jordan Crossland and Josh Morris both hit home runs helping the Braves end the Cardinals tournament run.

The Braves continue move on.

Tonights games were do or die.  Both games were elimination games so if you loose, thats your season.

Cardinals 14 vs Cubs 3

The Cardinals Joey Brooks was beaned the first pitch of the game. A failed attempted pick off at first allowed Joey to advance to 3rd base then Jake hit a hard grounder plating Joey.   The Cardinals scored 2 in the top of the first inning and the Cubs scored on a pass ball and a sacrifice fly by Trevor Mason also putting up 2 in the bottom of the inning.  The game remained tied until the top of the 3rd when Noah Barton grounded out driving home Alvin Keels. Alandis McCoy scored on a passed ball bringing the Cardinals lead to 4-2.  The Cubs would put 1 run across the plate in the bottom of the 3rd bring the score to 4-3.  The Cards would score 2 more in the Bottom of the 5th increasing the lead to 6-3. The offense exploded in top of the 7th with the Cardinals scoring 8 runs with back to back home runs from Jake Lineberry and Matthew Faircloth.  Cards starting pitcher, Alvin Keels gets the W on 5 innings, 3BB, 10K allowing just 1 hit.  Noah Barton closed out the final two innings with 1BB, 3K and 2 hits.

Cardinals advance to play Saturday at 9am.

Orioles 13 vs Phillies 5

All-around effort leads the Orioles past the Phillies 13-5. The bottom of the first saw the Orioles take an early lead, 3-0. Justin Liakos got things going for the Orioles with a single.  Gabriel Pagtalunan and Zack Rusinak scored on a groundout by Michael Webb.  Avery Gaurmer and Tyler Howlett both had doubles, but it just was not enough to out score the O’s.  Justin Liakos was a big factor at the dish and on the hill. Justin was 2-2 at the plate for the Orioles.  The Phillies had no answer for Justin Liakos on the bump, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Liakos gave up just 2 hits, allowed no earned runs, 1BB and 4K during his three innings of work.  The Orioles beat the Phillies thanks to 10 hits, including three extra base hits by Landon  Moran, Zack Rusinak and Gabriel Pagtalunan.

The O’s move on to play Saturday at 11:15am

Cubs 15 vs Nationals 14

7 innings was not enough to decide the outcome of the Cubs and Nationals game.  The Cubs asserted their dominance jumping out to an early lead of 11-2.  That would not discourage the Nationals who would close the gap and tie it up at 14 all.  The Cubs would not back down and eventually pulled out a 15-14 victory in the 8th inning.  The Cubs will advance.

Bronco

Yankess 10 vs Cardinals 5

The Cards took an early lead of 2-0 in the first inning then added one in the second extending their lead to 3-0. The Yankees batteled back in the third on a three run home run by Bailey Matela taking a 4-3 lead.  The Yankess would not relinquish their lead. The Yankees Bailey Matela is the winning pitcher hurling all 7 innings giving up just three hits, walking six and striking out nine batters.   The Card's Jake Lineberry pitched 5 innings giving up four hits, 4 walks and striking out eleven batters.

Braves 7 vs O's 3

The Braves took charge early and did not look back.  Jordan Crossland, Josh Morris and Jackson Tone all took the bump for the Braves. Jordan Crossland hit a solo no doubter over the left field wall. While the O's were not able to out score the Braves they were able to win a rule challenge and protest from the Braves skipper.  Here is the O's manger with the Brave's managers protest fee.

Pinto

Yankees 19, Pirates 14

The Yankees confirmed their #1 seed with a 19-14 defeat of the fiesty #9 seeded Pirates.  The Yankees lead the entire game and stopped a 6th inning rally by the Pirates with a double play to end the game.  The strong bats of the Yankees overwhelmed the Pirate defense and great defensive play by the Yankees kept the Pirate bats in check.

Bronco

Pirates 13 vs Phillies 5

The Pirates got off to an early 2-0 lead on an error that plated two.  A two run Home Run by Aiden Conway continued to increase the Pirates lead.  The Phillies offense fought on double a double and triple by Avery Gaurmer as well as a double by Carter Craun. The Phillies pulled with-in 5 runs, but the Pirates offense prooved to strong. Pirates 7 vs Cubs 6

The Cubs had control over the game deep into the the game.  It was looking as if the Cubs would be victors, however the Phillies had other plans.  Trailing by 3 runs, Sean Davis-Cherry (pictured) steped into the box and delivered a 3 run, game tying shot over the left field wall.  The Phillies would continue to fight and plate the go ahead run winning by a score of 7 to 6.
