3rd Wave Brewing Company Sponsoring 5K Run

Posted by Tom Wendorf at May 21, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Mike Ohr has notified us of the following:

3rd Wave Brewing Company, one of the sponsors of our Wine and Beer Tasting event last February, is sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk on May 30th. Proceeds will benefit Coastal Hospice and Palliative Care and the Delmar High School Volleyball Team.

The registration fee is only $20 in advance, and there will be post-race refreshments at the brewery.

Here's a chance to show our appreciation for 3rd Wave's support of OTS. Participate yourself, or let your running friends know. If you're not a runner, most people can walk a 5K in under an hour. Details are in the handout below.

OTS Starts 18th Season

Posted by Tom Wendorf at May 5, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The 18th season for OTS began May 5th. Gary Hayden led a brief opening ceremony held underneath the new flag pole outside center field of Field #2.

Diamond Blade Tileworks had an impressive 21 - 11 win over American Legion. Robinson's Furniture and Edward Jones Investments both had 6-run victories over Fox's Pizza Den (16 - 10) and Ocean View Family Restaurant (9 - 3) respectively. The other 3 games were close, with The Starboard over Atlantic Orthopaedics 6 - 4, LBG Homes over Dynamic Physical Therapy 7 - 6 and Colonial East over All Out Sports 7 - 6. B & E Tires had a bye.

The are 13 teams in the league this year with each team having 12 players. That's 156 Olde Tymers having fun Tuesdays and Thursdays playing some softball.

Regular season play continues through the end of August.

OLDE TYMERS SOFTBALL LEAGUE ANNUAL PLAYER DRAFT MEETING

APRIL 20, 2015

The annual player draft was held at the COG on Monday, April 20, starting at 10 a.m. Managers, assistant managers from all teams were present. The meeting was called to order by Bo Wood, who made some introductory statements and then identified the need to finalize the vote on the starting pitch count for this season.

At the previous Board of Directors meeting, the vote to go to a 0-1 vs a 1-1 count resulted in a tie vote. Keith Purdy and Dick Mullins were not present, so the motion was brought up for reconsideration. Paul Litwin and Harry Gowl presented opposing view points, then the vote took place. The motion to go to a starting count of 1 - 1 passed by a vote of 11 to 5.

Dick Mullins then went over the wait list, which went from up to 9 players on it, to the one we now have with only 3 on it, two of which cannot start until July, and one who has not paid yet (so technically is not on the wait list).

Dick Mullins then made a couple corrections to the draft sheet, updating positions, adding injury info and adding a rating.

Ed Sternberg made a motion to modify the length of a game that is tied. We currently use one tiebreaker inning. After that the game is tied if neither team went ahead of the other. Ed's motion was to extend the process to two tiebreaker innings, if necessary. If still tied after the one extra inning, a second inning would be played. If the game is still tied after the second extra inning the game is called a tie and is over. Second by Mullins, motion passed.

Discussion took place on a request from Mike Fleetwood that he be re-rated due to his inability to run as he has in the past. Several members of the tournament team he played with over the weekend stated he should be dropped. A motion was made by Harry Gowl and seconded by Grady Meredith to vote on whether we should reconsider Mike's rating. Motion failed 6-5, therefore no re-rating was be considered.

The player draft then started and ended around 1 p.m. A total of 156 players, which includes the managers, assistant managers and sponsors are on 13 teams.
