Weekly Recap

Posted by Ignacio Ponce at Mar 24, 2016 11:53AM PDT

The Girls’ Freshmen B Soccer Team has been working hard and having fun as they prepared for their first games this week. They faced off against Niles West and Evanston and came home with 2 wins

.Freshman A: We had our first win of the season this week against Niles West 3-1. We played a great game and really played like a team with good communication and ball movement. We are looking forward to getting back into the heart of the season after spring break. Have fun and Stay safe!

The sophomores are off to a great start this season. We have learned a lot of new set plays and the players have been incredibly flexible with trying out new positions. We have had a significant amount of early season injuries, but everyone is bouncing back! Our current record is 2-1. We started off with a loss to Naperville Central on our home turf. Despite the result, the coaches view the game as a win because we were given the opportunity to learn a lot about our new athletes and strategize about how to bring the girls together to create a cohesive unit. Our team is incredibly coachable and they have improved a significant amount in the last two weeks. We ended last week with a 6-0 win against Niles West and beat Riverside Brookfield 3-0 at home this week. Tactically, we changed many things around, including the implementation of a new high pressure block and an aggressive mentality that has allowed us to dominate the flow of play for the majority of the game. We are really proud of how quickly the girls have changed their mindsets and they are steadfastly building a level of mental toughness that will propel us forward towards our conference season which starts in a few weeks. Tonight we head out to Nazareth to compete in our last game before spring break. We are really excited for the rest of the season!

Varsity: Varsity has started the season strong with a 3-1 despite a loss last night to Nazareth HS. Our season opener was full of excitement skill. The Huskies Defeated Naperville 1-0 to start the season on the winning side. We then traveled to Niles and again found the net winning 1-0. Our home opener continued with a win against RB 2-1. Unfortunately we fell short last night 1-0 against Nazareth but the girls are ready to rebound and continue on the winning streak. Season record 3-1

Have a great spring break!

THANK YOU PARENTS!

Posted by Ignacio Ponce at Mar 23, 2016 12:21PM PDT

Once again the parents deserve all of the credit. Congratulations and thank you to all of the parents, family and friends that helped make the annual soccer social a success. Parents came out to support the program and it was a fun and successful evening. Thank you to the parent volunteers that worked the event and a special thanks to the parents for going above and beyond organizing the parents and auction. Thank you to all that donated to make the great baskets and the silent auction a success.

I want to remind everyone that the proceeds go to support the program and provide the players with gear such as dri-fits, head bands, hoodies, Chicago land soccer media, extra soccer balls, team meals and other great things. We could not have done it without you all.

Thanks again and GO HUSKIES!

Pasta Parties

Posted by Emily Steffen at Mar 22, 2015 6:02PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Happy Sunday, everybody! Remind your daughters to bundle up tomorrow for practice—snow’s back!

This is semi-late in the game, but we need to get these Pasta Parties scheduled. I’m looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to host, coordinate getting food, help out, etc. Please reach out to me if you are willing to get involved in any way. Email is best— esteffen@oprfhs.org .

Since most of our games are on Tuesdays, Monday looks like the best night. We will end practice early on those days and head over to eat good food and let the girls bond. We may need parents to volunteer to give rides, as well.

We can have as many or few of these parties as we want. Here are some possible dates:

Thursday 3/26 before Niles West;
Wednesday 4/1 before Whitney Young (Spring Break);
Monday 4/6 before LT;
Monday 4/27 before York;
Monday 5/4 before Hinsdale;
Monday 5/12 before Downers North (last game :( …)

Please reach out to me via email at esteffen@oprfhs.org if you can get involved. I appreciate your continued support of your daughters and this team.
