Sharpsburg, MD Little League
“Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets.”
- Yogi Berra (May 12, 1925)
History of Jefferson County Little League (JCLL)
In 1953, the initial charter for a local league was received from Little League, Inc., and the league name was Potomac Little League. At that time, each town had their own team and played on a local field. In August 1981, Potomac Little League and the Jefferson County Board of Education began discussions for a Little League Complex. In 1982, a commitment was made by the County Commission to allow five fields to be built behind Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, and the league name was changed to Jefferson County Little League (JCLL). Work began in September 1983, and the complex was dedicated on April 28, 1984. Today, our league serves over 400 children with 30+ baseball and softball teams comprised of T-Ball, Minor League, Major League, Intermediate League, and Junior League.
Our Mission
The mission of Jefferson County Little League is to promote, develop, supervise, and voluntarily assist in all lawful ways, the interest of those who will participate in Little League Baseball and Softball. Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists youth in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being. By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball and Softball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes.
