Volunteers

Posted by Mike Casteel at Dec 9, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Our Little League is a success through volunteers! Martinsburg Little League depends upon countless volunteers for everything including managing, coaching, concession stand, umpiring, field maintenance, fund raising, and many others. You can volunteer to help by contacting one of your volunteer coordinators.

Managers and Coaches Needed!

Each team needs a manager and several coaches. We have openings to manage our League teams. Beyond the direct responsibilities of working with their team, each manager and coach will maintain contact with the parents of their players and represent the Little League program in recruiting assistance for the various functions within the League, such as fields and grounds, umpires, contact parents, etc. Managing and coaching can be a fun and rewarding experience. If you are interested please fill out the Manager/Coach Application and the Volunteer form. You can submit the required form online or download the form and mail to Martinsburg Little League, Attn: Manager/Coach App, P.O. Box 931, Martinsburg, WV 25402.

Fields and Grounds

The condition of the playing fields should be of utmost concern to all parents. Our goal is to have fields that are safe, attractive and well kept. We need volunteers for both preseason and regular maintenance. In addition to normal field and ground maintenance work, we are looking for volunteers with specialties such as electricians, carpenters and painters. If you are interested please fill out the Online Form or download the Volunteer form, bring to In-Person Registration in February or mail to Martinsburg Little League, Attn: Volunteer App, P.O. Box 931, Martinsburg, WV 25402.

Umpires

Well-trained and interested umpires are as essential as the players themselves, to ensure a great season! Volunteers are needed for all games during the year for T-Ball through Seniors. If you are interested please fill out the Online Form or download the Volunteer form, bring to In-Person Registration in February or mail to Martinsburg Little League, Attn: Umpires App, P.O. Box 931, Martinsburg, WV 25402.

Team Parents

Parents from each team help the team manager as telephone contacts and with other duties as needed. The Contact Parent organizes the making of a team banner to carry on opening day and to hang at each game. These parents are the communication link in the League. Information concerning the games, practices, team fundraising, pictures and the like are passed through contact parents. Contact Parents collect team monies for snacks, parties, etc. If you are interested please fill the Online Form or download the Volunteer form, bring to In-Person Registration in February or mail to Martinsburg Little League, Attn: Volunteer App, P.O. Box 931, Martinsburg, WV 25402.

Concession Stand

The Little League is responsible for the operation of the concession stand. The Concession Managerensures smooth operation of the snack bar and is responsible for the ordering of all supplies and food. Concession Managers are volunteers who open and close the snack bars on game days. These positions are responsible for getting the stand to work smoothly upon opening and assists the daily workers clean up, then lock up for the night. Parents from each team are responsible for running the concession stand at every game. This is a requirement! If you are interested in helping with the snack bar, please fill out the  Online Form or download the Volunteer form, bring to In-Person Registration in February or mail to Martinsburg Little League, Attn: Volunteer App, P.O. Box 931, Martinsburg, WV 25402.

Helping at Registration

Volunteers may be needed to make and distribute posters and flyers advertising the beginning of registration. You can pass these out to local schools and youth organizations, and distribute them throughout neighborhoods. Announcements can be placed in local newspapers and on local radio stations. They should have the time, date and location of local registration, and they should inform parents of any specific documents that will be needed.

Volunteers are also needed at the time of registration. You will be responsible for organizing lines, handing out forms, answering questions, making sure that forms are filled out completely and correctly, and collecting participation fees. Please contact our Information Officer or Player Agent if you are interested in helping during registration.
