PALOMAR LEAGUE
1. Torrey Pines
Coach: Jon Moore
Last year: 23-11-1, 5-5 (tied for second)
At a glance: The Falcons' strength is pitching, with Rachel Nasland (Avocado League pitcher of the year in 2010), Lauren Hynes and Taylor Lee. Hynes, who has signed with Boston University, also hit .390 with 20 RBIs while Lee batted .312 with 18 RBIs. Lee also went 8-4 with a 1.95 ERA while filling in for Nasland, who pitched only 24 innings because of a shoulder injury after committing to Notre Dame.
2. Poway
Coach: Jim Bennet
Last year: 25-7, 8-2 (first)
At a glance: The CIF San Diego Section Division I runner-up last year, the Titans have back RHP Alayna Brenman (league pitcher of the year), C Kathryn Duran and SS Chase Snell. Brenman, a junior, was 17-2 with a 2.59 ERA. Duran, who has signed with Pittsburgh, had four homers and 22 RBIs while Snell moves from second base after a .306 season.
3. Rancho Bernardo
Coach: Summer Downs
Last year: 18-14-1, 5-5 (tied for second)
At a glance: Seven starters are back, led by sophomore RHP Sara White and sophomore Tiana Miller, who moved to shortstop after hitting .369. White was 16-9 with a 1.32 ERA. Both were second-team all-leaguers last year. UC Santa Barbara-bound C Leah Gordon hit .323 with 15 RBIs. OF Sam Gurley, 1B Danielle Knoetze, 3B Kellie Nagle and 2B Tori McIntyre are back as starters.
4. Westview
Coach: Kelly Petersen
Last year: 13-14, 3-7 (sixth)
At a glance: The Wolverines return eight starters, led by C Sasha Marguiles, who committed to Ball State two years ago. Only 2B Lauren Parker, OF Amanda Shewry and Marguiles are seniors, though. The other returning starters are junior C-3B Morganne Aguirre and sophomores P Kaylynn Pierce, 1B Jessica Snider, OF Katie Schultz and P Audrey Ciruzzi.
5. Mt. Carmel
Coach: Ruby Chavez
Last year: 15-11-1, 5-5 (tied for second)
At a glance: After winning four straight CIF San Diego Section Division II crowns, the Sundevils exited the playoffs early last year. The top returners are CF Taylor Abrenica (.286, 12 RBIs), OF Jessica Abrenica (.267), RF Rachel Peters (.304 in 23 at-bats) and RHP Megan Leyva (.526 in 19 at-bats).
6. Ramona
Coach: Antoinette Rodriguez
Last year: 17-15, 4-6 (fifth)
At a glance: The CIF San Diego Section Division III runner-up to University City last year, the Bulldogs will be led by P-SS Kailey Hill (.343, 23 RBIs), C-3B Amber Davis (.375, 18 RBIs) and CF KK Melgoza hit (.301, 10 RBIs). SS Kim Whelehon has committed to Southern Arkansas. P-2B Julie Ward had a 3.49 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 108 innings last year.
