NICOLE OBNEY belted a solo home run to right field with two outs in the 4th inning, while VICTORIA HATHAWAY went deep with a 2-run shot in the 7th, but top-ranked Torrey Pines, the tournament host, survived to take a 4-3 decision.
The Falcons posted three runs in the 1st and another run in the 4th, as Julia Yacker went 2-for-4 with an RBI double. The ballclub also stole seven bases to keep pitcher Taylor Lee undefeated this season at 7-0, but not without some nervous, final moments.
After Lee retired the first two Eagles batters in the 7th, KRISTINA LAHITTE was walked, then Hathaway delivered her blast to right-center field to make it a 1-run ballgame.
Torrey Pines (17-1), which was undefeated until getting bumped off by San Marcos over the weekend, then registered the final out, gaining a berth in Saturday's championship semifinals. West Hills already owns a final four berth, with the two remaining positions still to be announced. |
