Information About All Star Selection Process

Posted by Bryant Jung at Jun 4, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

OVLL puts together 6 All Star teams – Juniors, 50/70, 12/11 year old team, 11/10 year old team, 10/9 year old team, and a 9 year old team.  The 12/11 and 11/10 teams pull their players from Majors only.  The 10/9 team pulls mainly from Minor A , but CAN pull 10 year olds who played in Majors that spring.    A 10 year old from Majors can only be placed on the 10/9 team if 75% of the Majors managers make the recommendation.  The 9 year old team will pull from Minor A only.

The OVLL Board of Directors has no vote in the All Star process, nor do they have a voice in the nomination process.  All players are nominated/voted on by the Majors and Minor A managers in the following manner:

JUNIORS and 50/70

This team shall have a minimum of 12 players.  Players will be nominated and selected by team managers of our Juniors and 50/70 teams.

MAJORS:

12/11 team - All Majors players will receive a ballot listing every player by team in the Majors division.  At that time, they will cast votes for 6 players who are NOT on their own team.  The 5 players receiving the most votes are automatically placed on the 12/11 team.  The remaining players will be nominated and chosen by a majority vote of the Majors managers.  A minimum of 12 players will be on this team.

11/10 team – This team will consist of a minimum of 12 players nominated and chosen by a majority vote of the Majors managers.

MINOR A:

10/9 team – This team will have a minimum of 13 players nominated and chosen by a majority vote of the Minor A managers.  If 75% or more of the Majors managers recommend a 10 year old player from Majors, the BOD may place the player on the 10/9 eligibility list OR place the player directly on the team.

9 team – This team will have a minimum of 11 players nominated and chosen by a majority vote of the Minor A managers.

*If a parent submitted a “Do Not Pick” letter for a Spring 2013 manager, and that manager is selected to be the All Star manager, the child is not eligible for nomination to that All Star team (see Local Rules, II.P.16).

*If you already know that your child would be unable to participate in All Stars this year, for any reason, please inform your manager prior to the end of our season.

Please see our Local Rules, II.Q, for complete All Star selection policy.  Additional questions can be addressed to Claudine St. Pierre  (Lead Player Agent)  Toby Reece (President).

***IMPORTANT*** All Star Information

IMPORTANT ALL STAR INFORMATION

(Please read carefully if your child played in Juniors, 50/70, Majors or Minor A during Spring 2013)

Ocean View Little League will soon be selecting our 2013 All Star teams, and will proudly announce our All Star team rosters on Saturday, June 8th (per Little League rules, this date is non-negotiable).  If your child has been selected for one of the All Star teams, you will receive a phone call on June 8th.

A parent/player meeting/ice cream social will be held Sunday, June 9th at 5PM at the OVLL fields (common area by snack bar).  Please make sure an adult (preferably a parent) attends with the player, as we will be covering critical requirements for the All Star Tournament.

In the event that your child is selected for All Star play, you need to be aware of the following:

All players will be required to submit an ORIGINAL CERTIFIED BIRTH CERTIFICATE (no abstracts, baptismal certificates, etc) as well as THREE (3) ORIGINAL PROOFS OF RESIDENCY from THREE (3) different categories  (ex: auto registration; bank statement; electric bill).  Photocopies or printed Internet billings will NOT be accepted (California Driver’s License is the ONLY item that may be photocopied).  If you have any concerns/questions about a document you are submitting, please supply a fourth document for consideration.  For families with more than one child on an All Star team, we only need to get ONE set of the THREE supporting documents.

*Important Change for this year:  Due to continued recent cheating with Residency Documents around the country, Little League Baseball will not accept statements dated after February 1, 2013.  If you wish to submit a utility bill, bank statement, credit card statement, etc., be sure the date on the statement is between February 1, 2012 and February 1, 2013.  Many documents issued yearly (i.e. property tax, car registration card, etc) will be ok as long as they weren’t issued after February 1, 2013.    Any yearly issued document must include the February 1, 2013 date – this date is important to Little League as it covers the time the player was registered and playing.  The only item that can be over 1 year old is a copy of CDL and it must be current (not expired).  Should you choose to submit a copy of your CDL, make sure the copy you are submitting shows clearly the date of issue as well as expiration.

For a complete list of “Residence Eligibility Requirements” please visit http://www.littleleague.org/Assets/forms_pubs/tournaments/ResidenceEligibilityRequirements.pdf

Or, if the link does not work, visit www.littleleague.org, click on “forms and publications” then open the document titled “Proof of Residency Requirements”.

*If your child is playing for OVLL under a waiver, the league’s copy of the waiver will be used instead of the above mentioned residency documents!!

All documents for All Star players will be due by Saturday, JUNE 9th!  We ask and encourage ALL parents to have their documents ready to bring to the parent/player meeting on June 9th to expedite this process.  ALL documents will be held by OVLL until tournament play is over – again, no exceptions.

If you have any questions, please contact Claudine St. Pierre at cstpierre4@verizon.net or 714-376-6612.
