Church never stopped running and circled the bases after a pair of throwing errors to tie the game.

Dominic Ventimiglia cut into the Cardinals’ lead with an RBI single in the sixth.

Reyes, the Cardinals’ shortstop, had two hits and made a sensational diving catch on a pop fly into shallow center field. Eric Church, Joey Legg, Nick Shenkman and David Drigla each had singles as part of the Cardinals’ nine-hit attack.  By D. Lewis.

Reyes allowed two hits and struck out three batters in four innings and was helped by Cardinals center fielder Nick Shenkman, who made a run-saving diving catch to end the second inning.

The fourth-place Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 7-6. Anthony Capocciama, Kaleb Plewa and Kai Marden each had a single for the Giants (5-7).

Red Sox 7, Yankees 5:  April 26, 2014

Saturday was another close game for the Yankees who took the loss to the Red Sox.  Jared Manzo on the mound for the Red Sox with 7 strikeouts in 3 1/2 innings. Pitching for the Yankees, Mauro Ballinas  also throwing the heat with 4 strikeouts and the score remained zero, zero until the top of the fourth.  A doubles from Jake Vogel, Jared Manzo and Zach Lyons started the Red Sox momentum, both Nate Halloran and Cole Kaplan get on base with a walk and the Red Sox put four on the board.  Yankees come back scoring two from Sinjin Choi and Nate Skorheim.  More excitement in the fifth for the Red Sox as Jayden Klien and Marcus Cianca score. With the score now six to two, the Yankees rev it up as Sinjin Choi and Mauro Ballinas get on base and a RBI double from Naeco Logan and RBI singles from Luca Pantel and Nick Skorheim bring in three for the Yankees.  Yankee closer William Brooks throws three strikeouts pitching the last one and a half innings but the Red Sox's were not willing to give up and get the victory, 7-5.   By L. Skorheim

Yankees 5, Angels 3:  April 24, 2014

Angels came out swinging on Thursday night.  Great pitching from Angels pitchers, Dylan Youngsma, Mathew Wilson and Jag Burden.  Singles from Jason Gagnon, Jag Burden and Michael Rubly brought in three runs for the Angels.  Great day for Yankee Sinjin Choi going 4 for 4 with a home run in the third inning.  Game was tied up and went into the 7th inning where a single from William Brooks gets things rolling for the Yankees again.  Druce Faleafine gets on base, a hard single from Miles Elliot brings home two for the Yankees giving them the lead.  Angels fight back with a double from Dylan Youngsma but, a perfect double play from Sinjin Choi at Short to Naeco Logan at second and then the bullet to Nick Skorheim on first to make the final out and Yankees win the game 7, 5.  By L. Skorheim

Dodgers 10, Cardinals 0:  April 22, 2014

Andrew Baldwin, Edward Pelc and Jake D’Amico did the heavy lifting for the Dodgers on the mound and at the plate to snap the Cardinals’ five-game winning streak. The trio limited the Cardinals to three hits while striking out 13 batters.

Baldwin went 2-for-2 with two RBI and pitched three scoreless innings, striking out six. Pelc drove in three runs on a pair of hits and threw two shutout innings with five strikeouts. D’Amico struck out two batters in his only inning and contributed an RBI double.

The Cardinals’ best  scoring chance came in the first inning when they loaded the bases on a walk to Joey Legg and consecutive singles by Nick Shenkman and Paul Wagner. With two outs, Kyle Christy nearly cleared the bases with an opposite-field drive, but the ball landed foul by inches. Baldwin got out of the jam and the Dodgers pulled away with four runs in the third.

Bats 16, Hot Rods 8:  April 28, 2014

The Minor A Bats spread their wings Monday, April 28, knocking 15 hits in a 16-8 win over the Hot Rods.

Ethan Choi led the Bats' hit parade with three hits. Evan Knipe, Jack Sles, Jake Reagan, and Adam Bird each added a pair of hits. Kai Mullens, Jason Flory, Kai Almeda, and Brendan Clark each got one hit. Mullens, Knipe and Choi each scored twice.

Gavin Kells led the Hot Rods with two hits, including one double. Quentin Custodio, Carson Jones (a double) and Wyatt Smith each contributed a hit for the Hot Rods.

Hot Rods 4, Muckdogs 1:  Sunday, April 27, 2014

Quentin Custodio hammered a three-run, walk off home run to lift the Minor A Hot Rods to a 4-1 win Sunday (March 27) over the Muckdogs.

With one out in the decisive sixth inning, AJ Hurtado drew a walk and Gavin Kells followed with a single. Custodio then appeared to hit a bases-clearing double to win the game; however, the umpire called the hit off because the ball was pitched to Custodio before the umpire had established that the ball was live and in play. Whatever disappointment Custodio may have felt didn't overcome him, because just seconds later he hit his game-ending homer on 3-2 pitch to right-center field.

Custodio's dramatic home run upstaged excellent pitching performances by both team's pitchers. The Hot Rods' Hurtado pitched four and a third innings and allowed no hits or run, striking out 11. Custodio surrendered only one run in one and a third innings of relief. The Muckdogs' Chad Lux gave up just one run to the Hot Rods before Custodio knocked his homer off him.

Custodio led the Hot Rods with three hits (a double and a single in addition to his home run). Hurtado, Kells and Myles Lopez each also had one hit for the Hot Rods. Jaxen Phillips scored the lone run for the Muckdogs and Jimmy Legg got their only hit.  By S. Harmon.

Hot Rods 11, Iron Pigs 5:  April 23, 2014

The Minor A Hot Rods put eight runs on the board in the first two innings and kept the Iron Pigs in their rear view mirror the whole game in an 11-5 win Wednesday (April 23). The win lifted the Hot Rods to 4 and 1 in the regular season and the loss dropped the Iron Pigs to 2 and 3.

The Hot Rods scored three in the first when Jack Pirooz singled in Gavin Kells and Quentin Custodio, and Ramon Lopez scored later on a past ball. The Hot Rods shifted into a higher gear and scored five more in the second on runs by Carson Jones, Wyatt Smith, AJ Hurtado,  Kells, and Custodio.

Hurtado pitched the first three and one-third innings and made sure the Hot Rod early scoring wasn't squandered. He allowed just one run on no hits, striking out nine.

The Iron Pigs had their highlights too. Jordan Cole socked a solo home run in the fourth inning. Dan Purtell, Matt Fox and Luke Ponchack also scored for the Iron Pigs.

Quentin Custodio led the Hot Rods in runs with three. The Hot Rods collected seven official hits, one each by Hurtado, Kells, Custodio, Lopez, Pirooz, Aiden Hall and Smith.

Cardiac Screenings April 26 at OVHS

Posted by Robert Villanueva at Apr 15, 2014 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
You’ve read the headlines: a young athlete dies from a sudden cardiac arrest while playing a sport. But did you know that a young athlete dies every three days in the US from sudden cardiac arrest? A tragedy that, for the most part, is preventable through early detection.

OVLL is supporting non-profit organization Heartfelt Cardiac Projects that will offer cardiac screenings for kids and their families. On April 26, at Ocean View High School, for only $85 (a value of $1,500 of professional diagnostic services) individuals ages five and up will receive a comprehensive cardiac evaluation to pre-screen for this life-threatening condition.
