EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

March 16, 2016

In attendance: Bo Wood, Keith Purdy, Tom Wendorf, Carl Pierce

  • Bo reported that managers have been assigned to all team with just a couple assistant manager positions yet to be finalized.
  • The discussion then proceeded to the use of senior bats for players 70+, a request made by some league members. After a lengthy discussion the committee recommends that NO SENIOR BATS BE ALLOWED. That was driven by the difficulty in policing their use, safety concerns, alterations to batting ratings, and the general confusion and work added to the duties of managers and umpires. The committee’s recommendation will be presented to the full board with the corollary that, IF IT IS APPROVED, it should begin at age 75. TO REPEAT the committee’s recommendation: NO USE OF SENIOR BATS.
  • Bo also reviewed the preparation expenses for the new season which includes new bases, new umpire shirts and more ball field clay for infield repairs. At the same time he reminded us that we have lost two major funding sources: wine-tasting event and the bowling tournament. We can use some ideas, so if you have one…pass it on to the committee.
  • There was a brief discussion on whether to renew the Weather Line for 2016. It was decided that it is the most reliable way to announce weather cancelations during the season. It will be activated shortly.
  • We will have permission forms for non-registered players who are participating at any time. The distinct purpose is to protect us and the Church of God from any liability that might arise from an injury.
  • The last item involved a review and alteration of the player rating system. It is an obvious “hot potato”, but a few suggestions were made that will be brought to the attention of the full board for a final decision. With any luck, it will take effect this season.

Respectfully submitted,

Carl J. Pierce, Secretary

Don Hillock passed along info about this fundraiser by P.E.O.:

This is an event sponsored by the women's group, P.E.O. They fund scholarships for women. For guys looking to score points for future use or get out of the doghouse they are currently in with their better half, this would be just the thing.

And it might just be fun too. May 4, 2016 - 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center.

Mike Fleetwood is inviting all OTS members and friends to register for the 4th Annual Marine Corps League Golf Tournament being held at Heritage Shores Club on Friday, April 29, 2016.

Message from Mike:

Our Marine Corps League Detachment supports our community in many different ways. The monies we raise from our golf tournament funds the many projects and donations we support. I personally would appreciate our members getting on board with us to make our golf tournament successful.

The Marine Corps League is a supporter of our own OTS Golf Tournament.

Update from Hal

Greetings Old Friends, New Friends, Families and Broadway-Style Musical Lovers –

Here, now, the news:

· Business promotional purse-strings are opening to provide on-stage product and logo placements in FEARLESS! première performances (See below).

In addition to gaining the “quiet” attention of captive audiences, these arrangements —combined with individual patron-of-the-arts sponsors— include news release mentions, program ads and acknowledgements, and are helping to cover production costs. Why? Because when production expenses are paid, ticket sale proceeds can then be donated to three top area charities:

o Habitat for Humanity

o the (nonprofit) nationally renowned Bryan Symphony Orchestra

o the Mustard Seed Ranch for assisting high-risk-endangered children.

· You last saw Artistic/Stage Director Mark Creter’s terrific credentials. We are pleased to announce that Mark’s wife, Jennifer-Dotson Creter (Stage One Dance Studio) with an impressive list of chorographical stage accomplishments will be the FEARLESS! Choreographer. And attached (above) to this email are the credentials for our truly outstanding Music Director Mendy Richards.

· The new Nashville-produced documentary video: The Creation of FEARLESS! has now made its debut appearance on the website. Simply click on the title link.

· YES: PBS-TV will be producing a 5-camera video of the entire performance, audience included, for post-performance (can be pre-ordered) sales. YES: A successful “Women’s Patron-of-the-Arts” fundraising tea was held on January 16th and YES: A Live Art Auction will be held of diverse creations and media representations of “FEARLESS!” at the Magical Muse Gallery on April 15th.

· The magazine article draft sent to you (just before New Year’s) was reproduced in full as a news feature on the homepage of AMAC (the rival to AARP) on January 21st and then distributed a week later via email newsletter to AMAC’s 1.5 million Member-Subscribers nationwide. It was reproduced again by two other online newsletters. Click here to see the final version.

· Top technical stage lighting and audio engineer teams have been recruited and are presently working on plans to best represent the complex stage lighting and sound equipment for the theatre’s largest (24-piece) orchestra – larger, incidentally, than in the available history of almost all Broadway musicals as well!

· BEEN WAITING FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE OUT YOUR ON-STAGE PERFORMANCE DREAM? Open audition tryouts will take place at Tennessee Tech University on May 2, 3 and 4 . . . 44 on-stage actors, actresses, singers and dancers will be recruited. Online registration is required for advance scheduling.

So, that’s the whole kit and caboodle! We are delighted to hear so many of you are making the trek here, and we so much look forward to seeing you for this special experience. When you order online tickets remember to let us know the date you choose so we can be sure not to miss you! Also note that the $16 tickets go to just $10 when you order 3 or more!!!

HAPPY END OF FEBRUARY AND BEGINNING OF MARCH TO YOU AND YOURS – Hal & Val
