A Pair of Sophomores Earn this Week's Honors!
Lexi Brown (Sophomore Forward)
When the smallest player on the field is winning the balls in the air, on the ground, and anywhere else in between, it is a result of pure determination. The coaches are not surprised by the spark Lexi provides to the offense because of her consistent work ethic at practice and in warm-ups. Although Lexi did not have a goal in this past Saturday's 3-1 victory over Archbishop Ryan, she provided one assist and created several more dangerous scoring opportunities. The coaches are thrilled to have such a young talent play a vital role in this team's success.
Jackie Sweeney (Sophomore Midfielder)
As the JV team struggled to secure a goal against Archbishop Ryan, Jackie Sweeney controlled the ball in the center of the field, winning just about every tackle she was involved in. Regardless of the score or the field conditions, Jackie battled the entire game and fought hard to create opportunities for the team. Jackie’s hard work and determination lifted the spirits of her teammates to continue battling through a 0-0 draw.
Before I lose my papers, I wanted to get some of my thank you's out there!
Thank you so much for the parents who drove down to the Philadelphia Union Open Practice. It was very beneficial to have so many mini-vans and SUVs for all of the girls to attend. Special thanks to Mrs. Howe, Mr. Hyman, Mr. Phillips, and Mrs. Tini!
I also wanted to thank all of the parents who supervised this past weekend's very successful car wash. I hope you allowed the girls to do most of the washing and you were able to put up your feet for a bit! I know I didn't catch everyone who was there but I wanted to say thank you again. The following faces made things easier for me: Mrs. Bane, Mrs. Fischer, Mrs. Rankin, Mrs. Vogel, and Mrs. Wunder. I know I missed some of you so send me an email and we'll give you a shout out as well!
Congratulations to our first Players of the Week!
Alyssa Navroth (Senior Defender)
Alyssa is credited with a goal-line save in the second half of a 4-0 victory over Great Valley. Although the offense had done its job to secure a victory, Alyssa anticipated the worst on defense to cover for her goalkeeper. After a Great Valley attacker was able to get a shot in behind the defense and goalkeeper, Alyssa came from the weak side to clear the ball away before nearly crashing into the post. Alyssa's effort shows the type of determination and focus we expect from all of our defenders to preserve our first shutout of the season.
Kylie Howe (Freshman Defender, Midfielder, Forward...)
As seen in the description, Kylie is being honored this week for her versatility and coachability on the field. Coach Voorhees described Kylie as being all over the field, wherever she was needed. She was able to help her team record a 2-1 victory over Great Valley, regardless of which position she was placed on the field.
