2008 Cross Country Series

The Cross Country season has started.

Race dates are: October 1, 8, 15, and 22

Elementary: 1 mile - have to be 6th grade or lower and 12 or younger before Sept. 1, 2008; JV: 2 miles - you have to be 15 or younger on Dec. 31, 2008; Open: 3.1 miles (5K) - 16 and up.

Order of events

1 mile (girls and boys run separate, girls followed by boys) 2 miles (girls and boys run together) 3.1 miles (female and male run together) - starting at 4 pm, rolling time schedule

The St. Croix Cross Country Championship will be held on October 22nd. In the Elementary division the top 5 runners score points for their school (by place number, 1st place - 1 point, 2nd place - 2 points, etc.). Team with the lowest score wins. Boys and girls score separately. Additional runners for each team will offset the score for other teams.

The inter-island cross country competition for Elementary is scheduled for November 8, 2008 at UVI in St. Thomas. The top 7 girls and boys in the series will qualify for the team to represent St. Croix.

The Virgin Islands Championship will be held on November 15, 2008. Division and distance are: U13: 1 mile, U16: 2 miles, Open: 3.1 miles (5K). Age cut off is Dec. 31, 2008.

VI Championship

The VI team had excellent performances in the 2008 CARIFTA Games, which were being held from March 22nd - 24th in St. Kitts.

In the Shot Put Andrea Wynter had a put of 9.10 meter, which is equivalent to 29 feet 10 1/4 inch. This breaks the July 2nd, 1994 8.86 meter record (29 feet 3/4 inch) of Charlene Springer. Both Shot Putters set their record in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

Ninfa Barnard ran a 5:13.95 in the 1500 meter and finished 7th in the final. In the 800 meter she ran a personal best of 2:18.23 to advance to the final, she repeated that performance in the final by running a 2:18.53 finishing in 8th place.

Allison Peter won a silver medal in the 100m U17 with a time of 11.91. Behind Ahye from Trinidad and Tobago, and beating Robinson from the Bahames by one thousandths of a second. She won a gold medal in the 200m in 23.99, with this performance she became the first in VI history to double medal at the CARIFTA Games. Tabari Davis finished 8th in the final of the U17 400m with a time of 52.49. David Walters finished 5th in the final of the U20 100m in 10.64. Juan Robbles finished 4th in the final of the 5000m in a personal record of 16:08.

Obituary Myron M. Barnard

It's with heavy heart that the St. Croix Track Club, Inc. notifies the public of the passing of Myron M. Barnard at the age of 45. Myron was the father of our top middle distance runner Ninfa O. Barnard.

The memorial services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday March 26th, 2008 at Sunny Isle Baptist Church.
