News and Announcements

WOW!!  There are probably LOTS of adjectives to describe our first day of the Region 5 tournament, but none more appropriate.  After 10 years of building a great team & tradition, the Wildcat Boys reached into the upper crust of "best teams ever" by breaking the 4000 plateau with a super 4017 series in round 1 vs. Franklin HS!!  Rolling team games of 1357 & 1274 in games 1 & 2, Coach Mark saw that the guys had another "chance" at that coveted score.  With a little prodding to "finish off like you've started," Coach left everyone in for game 3 and was NOT disappointed!  Almost every bowler finished great in the 10th frame, and Sr. Seth Carey was the last to bowl.  On a double going into the last frame, he needed at least a good count, spare, and another good count to hit it.  A strike on the first ball would get it outright, and Seth calmly walked up and STUFFED IT!  A 9-spare followed, and 4017 was the result.  Boys win 24.5-2.5 to advance and face Maplewood HS in the semi's on Thursday.  Leading the guys today was none other than our leader all season - Chris Branner, who FINALLY got his 700 in grand style with a 269-227-268 for a super 764 series.  Awesome set, Chris!  The "right side" threesome finished with 2176, with Spencer Harp & Kyle Hubbuch both rolling a 267 game and 706 series.  Eric Lane added a 255 in game 1, and Seth finished with a 248-659 total.  Outstanding day, Wildcats!!

The LadyCats also advanced with their own good day, winning 26-1 over a much improved Lady Rebels team.  Total pinfall was 3338-2618.  Another steady, team-oriented day with good scores but no "superstar" - Dani Chaffin led our girls today with a 614 series (223).  Laurel Everett had high game with a nice 228 in game 2 (585), while Brittany Sisco added a 223-601.  Kirstin Page also had a steady 201-585.  Great start, LadyCats!  On to the semi-finals vs. Hume-Fogg HS.

Congratulations to both the Wildcats & LadyCats for once again becoming District 10 Champions!  Both teams faced off with rival Lebanon HS, and again both teams secured the match after the first two games, with the boys winning by a final margin of 21-6, and the girls by a score of 25-2.

The LadyCats didn't have a lot of highlight games, but didn't need them as they consistently rolled more than enough to win.  Led by Brittany Sisco's 221 & Kirstin Page's 215, the ladies 1091 first game was good for an 8-0 lead.  The girls didn't break 200 again, but their team games of 1029 & 1048 each won 7 points for the 25-2 score.  Total pinfall was 3168-2344.  Kirstin Page also led our team today with a nice 591 series, while Miss Sisco rolled a good 583.

The boys had a few bigger individual scores, but the team's great start of 1252 & 1241 led to a 14-2 score to get the win.  John Petty had the top scores for the guys today with a great 258 in game 2, and a nice 695 series.  Way to go, John!  Chris Branner was right behind John with his 257 in game 1 and a 686 total.  Other good scores were:  Spencer Harp with a 233(630); Seth Carey a 226; and Kyle Hubbuch a 212.

This is the sixth straight District 10 title for the LadyCats (and 7th straight overall), while the boys picked up their third in-a-row.  Keep the machine rollin' Central...next up is Regions!

The 2010-11 season has been another good one for the Wilson Central bowlers.  This year, we have five bowlers who have bowled good enough during the season to advance to the 2011 TSSAA Individual State Tournament!  Congratulations to the following bowlers:

Boys - Chris Branner (209 avg) & Spencer Harp (206)

Girls - Dani Chaffin (191), Kirstin Page (185), & Laurel Everett (184)

This will be the second trip for both of the boys, with Spencer finishing 11th in 2009 as a freshman, and Chris finishing 22nd last year.  Spencer narrowly missed qualifying last year, missing by only 3/10 of a pin in average.  He actually reversed that this year by qualifying 4th in the district by 6/10 of pin over Keith Harp (no relation) of Lebanon HS - 206.9 to 206.3!  For the ladies, this is the 3rd trip for the LadyCats high average bowler this year - Dani has finished 38th in 2009, and made the finals last year, ending up 6th.  Kirstin will be looking to repeat the magic from last year, where she was the 2010 Champion in her first year of the tournament!  And, this is Miss Everett's first trip to the Individuals.

The TSSAA Individual State Tournament kicks off the State Bowling each year, with the first round of competition this year to be held on Thursday, January 27th starting at 9:00am.  72 bowlers from across the state will bowl 4 games of qualifying on a "house shot" then cut to the top 24.  These 24 will bowl 4 more games on a "sport shot" with the top 6 advancing to the Finals on Friday morning.  Six more games of match-play on the sport shot then determines the winners.

CONGRATULATIONS and GOOD LUCK to our Central bowlers at State!

With a show that said "we are ready for the post-season," the WC teams both cruised to an easy win over Glencliff 27-0!  Rolling "state-like" scores, the boys & girls ended a second consecutive district season with a perfect record.  The Wildcats rolled their 2nd highest series of the season with a great 3817, on games of 1243, 1357, & 1217.  And, game 3 featured 4 subs with 2 of those being new freshmen!  Leading the way was Jr. Eric Lane with his 2nd 700+ series of the season - a 702 (238-248-216).  Great set, Eric!  Spencer Harp was our other starter who finished the day, and he had a nice 653 (202-225-226).  Other good scores for the guys:  Seth Carey with a 246; Chris Branner a 235-225; Kyle Hubbuch a 215; and So. Bobby Davidson a 207.  Also, those two freshmen - Mike Murrell & Jordan Stump - both soared way over their season average with games of 188 & 186!  GREAT day of bowling, Wildcats!

The LadyCats were also up to the task, as their 3404 series was their 2nd highest this season!  Rolling games of 1186, 1111, & 1107, our girls finished off yet another perfect district regular season - their sixth-in-a-row!  Kirstin Page had a nice 601(222) & Dani Chaffin a 591 series (237 game) to lead our girls today.  Other good scores: Laurel Everett with a 227 game, and Kerstyn Stansberry off the bench in game 3 for a 221.  Nice bowling ladies!

The District winning streak has now reached an incredible 85 straight matches!  I believe this has to be a record of some kind, but I don't think that records like this are kept anywhere!  Anyway, another outstanding season LadyCats...let's go get another State Championship!

WC easily takes down rival MJ at Smyrna

Unlike our last match at Hermitage this season, our home match with in-county rival Mt Juliet was a much different contest.  The boys started fast, winning all 8 points in game 1, and never looked back for an easy 23-4 win over MJ.  Five of our six starters rolled over 200 to finish with a nice 1275 game to MJ's 1031 score.  And the only bowler not to break 200 in game 1 ended up leading our team again for series...Sr. Chris Branner bounced back in games 2 & 3 with games of 223 & 235 for a 637 total.  I might add that he had the only 200+ game in each of the last two games...nice job, Chris!  Other good scores:  Eric Lane had a 234; Spencer Harp a 227; Kyle Hubbuch a 226; Seth Carey a 209, and John Petty a 200 game.  Final pinfall total was 3482-2955.  Wildcats now 16-1 on the year  - one win away from another "perfect" district season.  Go Wildcats!!
