News and Announcements

The LadyCats start off the season with a convincing 23-4 win over an under-staffed Friendship Christian squad.  With only 4 bowlers bowling for FCS, our ladies knew early on that this match wouldn't be close.  Their 2628 total was not one of our best outings, but more than enough for the win.  Elizabeth Callas had high game for us with a 199, & So. Nicole Bailey led us with a 507 total.  Starting our new season, this makes 86 straight District Wins for the WC LadyCats, a truly astounding mark!

The Wildcats matched the girls with a 23-4 victory, and leading the way was our "Cross Country" man - Eric Lane.  Eric saw his first bowling action today, and was very consistent & very good, rolling 223-220-225 for a nice 668 total.  Way to go, Eric!  All six starters rolled over 200 in game 1 for an 8-0 sweep of the FCS boys, led by Kyle Hubbuch with a 237, and Jr. Bobby Davidson with a 234.  Spencer Harp added a 222 in game 1.  Team game that game was a nice 1320, and series ended up at 3515.  Great job, Wildcats!

Wildcats start season off with a "W" over MJ

Posted by Mark Hubbuch at Sep 26, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Our first match of the 2011-12 season was with our rivals from Mt Juliet, who have fallen on "hard times" in rebuilding recently.  While they have 4 girls on their team, they only have 7 total players on their single "coed" team!  Our boys had no trouble in this one, winning easily 23-4.  Pinfall totals were 3430 for us to 2962 for MJ.  Sr. John Petty started off his season with a bang, rolling the first 7 strikes en route to a super 256 game - nice one, John!  And Fr. Bryan Crigger started out his HS bowling career nicely, leading our guys today with a great 681 series (227 avg).  Bryan's series was consistent with games of 231, 227, & 223.  Nice bowling, Bryan!  Other good scores were:  Kyle Hubbuch with a 245 in game 3, & Sr. Spencer Harp with (2) 200 games.  Great start 'Cats!

Jamboree kicks off the 2011-12 season

The 2011 Middle TN HS Jamboree was held today at Hermitage Lanes, and as is our tradition, the WC bowling teams kicked-off their season with this event.  Last year saw both our Boys & Girls teams' take the team titles.  Could we defend our title this year?  The answer to that is...no, not this time!

The Wildcat Boys entered two teams into this year's event, and the #1 team rolled two good games with a 1041 & 1050 to take a slim 4-pin lead over the #1 team from Hardin County after 2 games.  In game 3, the tables turned on us A LOT!  Hardin County soared to a great 1148 game, while our guys struggled quite a bit with the drying out lanes, and could only muster an 876 game.  WC #1 still easily finished 2nd, while the boys on WC #2 rolled  a 2839 total for a nice 5th place finish.  For the individuals, Sr Spencer Harp rolled a great 258-683 for a 4th place finish, and Jr Bobby Davidson had a nice 644 on team #2, good for 7th place out of the 55 bowlers participating.  Also, So. Mike Murrell was consistent with his 621 total.  Nice bowling, Wildcats!

The LadyCats are in a bit of a "rebuilding" mode after graduating 4 seniors last year, three of them starters and big contributors to the Girls team the past few years.  So our 3rd place finish was not a surprise today.  The #1 team rolled a 2527 total, led by Laurel Everett's 226 game & Nicole Bailey's 557 series.  Brittany Sisco also rolled a nice 210 in game 3.  Great bowling, ladies!  The two teams to finish ahead of us were Hardin Co, & Hendersonville's girls, two of the three teams we'll face in less than a month at the Fall Bash in Hardin County.  All in all, a fun test to see where we're at right now...nice bowling LadyCats.

In a rematch of the 2009 State Finals match, our WC boys were tasked with beating the Smyrna Bulldogs to earn their second straight championship.  And unfortunately for our 'Cats, the 'Dogs did what they needed to do and pulled away in game 3 to win the match and become the 2011 TSSAA State Champions.  Unlike two years ago, though, this team battled back from a huge deficit to take the lead after two, and nearly pulled off the comeback!

Game 1 was pretty close until about the 8th frame, when the Bulldogs started striking!  The result was we only won 1 point with our 1183 start, as they knocked down 1259 pins for the big lead.  Coach Kenny had another GREAT pep talk, and Coach Mark went ahead and swapped some players around in the lineup to try to shake things up.  It all worked beautifully, as our boys rolled a great 1279 to Smyrna's 1125 and won 7.5 points to take the lead 8.5-7.5 and up by 73 pins!!  Kyle Hubbuch got hot and stayed close to his opponent even as the Smyrna bowler had the first 8 strikes, and the payoff was that he "caught" him at the end for a 267 tie!  GREAT bowling, Kyle!  Four other 200+ games and a lot of momentum helped us to the lead!!  Then in game 3 we saw the complete opposite again.  All six Smyrna bowlers hit over a 200 game for a super 1340 score, while even with Spencer Harp soaring to an awesome 277 game, we could only come up with a 1205 total as SHS took 7 points and total for the win.  Still, this team NEVER stopped trying and gave it their all - all the way to the end.  A super match for two great teams, both of them winners in every way!

Congrats to our friends at SHS for their victory!

Not many teams can say that they have made it to the championship match three years in a row...and now we can!  To our Seniors - Chris Branner & Seth Carey - both of you grew as bowlers and as young men during your time on the team, and what a ride it has been!  I am happy for you that we got our rings last year, and proud of the growth this team has had with you two on it!  You both are LEADERS and SUPER young men...I hope you take with you as many great memories of our team as I have of you guys on it!

WILDCATS on three ... 1 - 2 - 3 WILDCATS!!!

The WC Wildcats move on to their third straight TSSAA State Finals match with an easy 19-8 victory over Soddy-Daisy.  This semi-final contest was a rematch from last season's final match, and the results were similar.  Game 1 was the Matt Lyon show for SDHS as the 3-time Mr. Bowler winner showed why he deserved that award with a great 279 game!  Nice bowling, Matt!  However, their team's 1147 was nearly 100 pins less than our boys 1245, as we win game one 5-3.  Game 2 was not as good of a score for us with an 1175, but it didn't matter as we swept all 8 points to take a 13-3 lead!  Coach then subbed out a couple of bowlers to rest for the finals and we then lost game 3 1127-1178, but easily won 3 points and the series total for the 19-8 final margin.  Eric Lane again led our boys with a nice 243 & 668 series...way to go, Eric!  Chris Branner added a 231-638, John Petty a 236-619, and Spencer Harp had a 214 & 211 in his two games bowled.  On to the finals match for a chance at TWO IN A ROW!!  GO CENTRAL!!
