CRUSE TOSSES 2-HITTER FOR SECOND WIN

Del Norte High’s Dana Cruse tossed a two-hitter and the Nighthawks remained undefeated with a 6-2 victory over visiting Serra Tuesday in a Valley Center Tournament game. Cruse picked up her second win of the season, striking out two and walking four in a complete-game effort. Bryn Burrows went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Emily Metz had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Nighthawks, which moved to 9-0-1. In only its second season at the varsity level, Del Norte is already approaching last year’s win total of 14. The Nighthawks have been getting outstanding pitching from Cruse and Megan Vincent to help them get off to their best start in their brief history.

SOFTBALL - NONLEAGUE - SOUTH HILLS 4, SAN DIMAS 0
South Hills senior catcher Britney Rodriguez went 1 for 3 but, her only hit was a triple to drive in the first two runs as the Huskies (9-3) downed San Dimas (8-5).
Senior Sarah Macias and freshmen Caitlyn Van Hemelryck combined to shutout the Saints.
Leading the Huskies offensively was junior right fielder Abry Moreno who went 3 for 4 with three singles and one run scored.
The Huskies scored three runs in the third inning on three hits.
With one out, Lexi Robles walked which was followed by Abry Moreno single to left.
With runners on second and first, Rodriguez tripled to left center which scored Robles and Moreno and the Huskies were up 2-0.
Then, with two outs and Rodriguez still on third, Kristen Stewart promptly singled to left to score Rodriguez and South Hills led 3-0.
The Huskies added their final run in the fourth inning when sophomore left fielder Halayna De Avila tripled to left with one out. After a ground out for the second out, Robles singled to center to score De Avila for a 4-0 lead.
