Tuesday’s weather has forced the third straight postponement of a Chiefs game.

The Chiefs at Reading game scheduled for Morton Field on Tuesday evening at at 6:00 PM has been postponed.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs will play at Lexington High at 8:00 PM. The game was originally scheduled at Maplewood but has been moved to Lexington at 8:00 PM due to a field conflict. The Chiefs will be the home team.

The Chiefs start a three game road trip on Thursday, playing at Morelli Field at 7:30 PM. On Friday they are back in Lexington to meet the Blue Sox at 8:00 PM before heading to Wakefield on Sunday at 3:00 PM to face the Merchants.

The Chiefs begin a busy week on Monday night when they host the Somerville Royals at Maplewood at 8:00 PM.

On Tuesday they travel to Morton Field in Reading to meet the Bulldogs in an early 6:00 PM start before returning to Maplewood to meet the Lexington Blue Sox on Wednesday at 8:00 PM. The Chiefs travel to Morelli Field to visit the Melrose Americans on Thursday at 7:30 PM before concluding the week with a visit to Lexington on Friday at 8:00 PM.

Wednesday night’s Reading Bulldogs at Chiefs game, that was scheduled for Maplewood at 8:00 PM, has been postponed due to heavy rain.

No makeup date has been as yet scheduled.

As of 5:40 PM, all games that were scheduled in the ICL for Wednesday have now been RAINED OUT.

Maddogs Beat Chiefs in 8 Innings, 4-3

Malden, MA- The Malden Maddogs broke a 3-3 tie and walked off with a 4-3 eight inning win over the Chiefs at Maplewood on Tuesday night.

The Maddogs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Derek Bauer double. The lead went to 3-0 in the fourth on a Sean Doherty double and Logan Gillis triple.

The Chiefs climbed back to 3-1 in the top of the sixth on an Andrew Caulfield triple and a Nate Witkowski RBI single. They knotted the game in the top of the seventh with a hit batsman, an infield error, and singles from Tony Serino and Ben Waldrip.

A Gillis double and a Pete Maltzan single won it for the Maddogs in the bottom of the eighth.

Evan Walsh (2-1) took the loss for the Chiefs despite striking out ten.

Chiefs Chatter….. The now 8-8 Chiefs face the Reading Bulldogs on Wednesday at 8:00 PM at Maplewood….

Malden, MA- Zach Kirby tossed a complete game five-hitter to get the Chiefs past the Melrose Americans 5-1 on Monday night at Maplewood.

With the victory the Chiefs get back into the win column snapping a five game losing streak that was the second longest in franchise history. The team lost seven in row from June 6-20 in 2006.

Shawn Smeglin and Kirby matched zeros in the first inning before Nate Witkowski gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead when he led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo homer.

The Americans quickly knotted things up in the top of the third on an RBI single from Kyle Cortese.

The Chiefs pulled ahead for good with two runs in the bottom of the inning when Tony Serino walked, Ben Waldrip singled, and Andrew Caulfield reached on an error to give them a 3-1 advantage.

The lead went to 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth on consecutive singles from Mike Burgoyne, R.J. Libby and Serino (2 RBI’s).

Kirby threw 108 pitches and struck out 11. He evened his record at 3-3 on the season and now has an ICL best 64 K’s in just 40 innings.

Smeglin allowed only six hits but fell to 0-4 on the year.

Chiefs Chatter… The Chiefs will send southpaw Evan Walsh (2-0) to the bump when they take on the Malden Maddogs on Tuesday at Maplewood at 7:45 PM. On Wednesday at 8:00 PM the Chiefs entertain the Reading Bulldogs, also at Maplewood, at 8:00 PM….
